Chapter 1

As I ran towards the city, memories flooded back. They were blurry and unfocused, seen through weak human eyes (no offense, guys). Memories I tried not to linger on, but couldn't forget.

My coven and I stopped on the outskirts of the city, out of sight. Cora, a tall blonde vampire, was our leader. She was extremely beautiful, in a way that words couldn't describe, and she had golden blonde waves that fell to her waist. She was more beautiful than anyone I had ever seen, human or vampire. She somehow had the control to create all of us. First, was Violet, who was even taller than Cora (even though she was treated like Cora's little sister). She had long, dark hair that went past her elbows and an extremely cute and innocent face that clashed horribly with her crimson eyes. I was the shortest of the group, at about five foot three. I was tiny in comparison to everyone else, and had straight brown hair that just reached my elbows. And then there was Hunter, an average sized guy whose skin was a tad bit darker than the rest of ours, though still pale. He had ruffled dark blonde hair and, I had to admit, was extremely hot. He was created as a companion for Violet, but instead served as a constant annoyance for everyone. Don't get me wrong, he's a good guy, but—ugh. Annoying.

"You know the routine," Cora said. "We'll split up at sunset. Go for the criminals only." We all looked at Hunter.

"What?" he said. "Oh, come on—it was only once!" We ignored him. He'd have to do what Cora said, anyway, because Cora had said it. That was what Cora's special power was. She could make you do whatever she wanted, just by saying it aloud. I could do something along the lines of that, except I could get into your head and control your mind... Cora's better at crowds, though.

Violet could also get in your head, she could read your thoughts—and then respond to them with her own. It was like someone was whispering in your ear, except when she decided she was mad at you and screamed. But she only did that to Hunter. She never talked (even though she could) and only used her freaky mind thing for communication.

I felt sort of bad for Hunter, who didn't really have a talent. He was a fair tracker, but it wasn't as cool as some of the badass vampire powers I've seen before. Like the Volturi. Whew. Now they were badass.

They were like vampire royalty. Or at least we respected them that way. They only recruited the most powerful of vampires and—if I could blush I would—they tried to recruit Violet, Cora, and I. But we all agreed—our nomadic life was better than going aroung ripping the heads off of vampires who didn't follow the rules. Besides, I had enough troubles when Cora made me babysit Hunter.

Sundown didn't seem to come quickly enough. My throat was burning like hell. I hadn't hunted in nearly a week. Every time a human passed, I had to resist the urge to pounce. But they smelled so good. I imagined myself tasting the sweetness of their blood, so much better compared to the intoxicated blood of the victims I usually chose.

I felt sorry for humans. They walked by casually, unaware that every step they took toward us put them in more danger. But I would give anything to be human again. To live the carefree life I had before. To escape the burning of my throat and the lust for blood.

But, I will admit, I did make killing my victims more enjoyable. I messed with their minds before killing them. I brought them in before snapping their fragile necks. This is what I was built for, what all vampires were built for. We are the world's most dangerous, powerful, and beautiful killer.

I am so going to hell.

Every vampire is, pretty much. I couldn't think of one vampire (that I had met) that would even have a chance at heaven.

"Alright," said Cora. "Let's go."

I looked at the blood red sky. There wasn't enough sun to reveal what we really are. By then the drunks and the druggies would've started to flourish throughout the city of Ottawa, Canada.
