Chapter 1
We sat at the dinner table waiting for mom to serve. We were celebrating the last night before school begins and Jeremy goes back to Boston.
"Need some back to college money to spend?" gramps asked Jeremy. How come he never asks me if I need money.
"Nah gramps. I have a job remember." He works at a gas station which pays him way more than he deserves.
"Can't you just take the money and give it to me?" I asked him expectantly.
"Hey, I told you if you need money you can ask me. What do you need it for?"
"That is exactly why I don't take money from you. You're worse than gramps." I rolled my eyes at him. He smirked.
"Dinner is served," grandma chimed bringing the lemon chicken from the oven.
After dinner, I went up to my room and before closing the door I shouted for Jeremy "Don't leave without waking me in the morning."
"Okay..." I slammed the door shut. I picked up my phone and laid flat on the bed. 3 new messages from Noah. Noah gotta stop texting me silly stuffs all day. We live in evergreen wood, a small neighborhood having a big woods in one side. Thus the name. The houses are so close together that I can climb cautiously through the window, enter Noah's room, steal his homework, copy then leave it back (not that I have ever done that). I tap Read.
watcha granma cookin? i smell lemon and chicken.
save me some
please,,,,,we r havin meatloaf.....gaaaaah
Typical Noah. I tell grandma to prep a dish for Noah. I slide open my window and let wind blow my hair. I take a deep breath of the faint smell of the rose Noah's mom grew on her porch. I call for Noah a few times. He comes to the window and I pass him the chicken.
"What took you so long?" I asked giving a pissed expression.
'What? Now I can't even go to the bathroom?" He let out a dramatic sigh. I rolled my eyes as high as possible.
He bites off a large portion of his chicken and says, "Are you psyched? Senior year."
"It's another school year. Jeez"
"Hey, it is THE year you collect credits for college. It is THE year you try for a scholarship."
"It is also the year to have loads of fun."
"Yeah that too. Let's make a toast."
"We don't have drinks."
"Who cares," He took a piece of his chicken and lifts it in the air, "to an unforgettable year."
I lifted my hand for a 2 finger salute, "To an unforgettable year."
I woke up in the morning, no not morning probably dawn. Jeremy was shaking me hard.
"Jen wake up, I'm leaving."
"You couldn't wake me up in a more humane way?" I said half jokingly. After every visit this moment is hard. Without mom and dad, Jeremy was my family. I sure love granma and gramps. But Jeremy is the best brother one could ever have. When mom died, Jeremy took care of everything where my dad grieved sitting on the couch days after days. When dad left us, he had this huge fight with Jeremy. He was shouting at dad for how he could leave his children for a women he had known only months.
"Hey, it is your senior year. Don't do anything I wouldn't do," he hugged me tight. This was hard for him as much as it was for me.
"Then I will have a very boring year."
"You know what I mean," he kissed my forehead and started heading out. "Aren't you gonna walk me out?"
"Yes sir."
I watched as he got in the car. He waved at granma and gramps. Then he looked at me and winked. I gave him a two finger salute and he started the engine. I gazed as long as my eyes could see the hint of blue of his car.

I entered the hallway of Evergreen High. This was it. My senior year. I spot Noah who ditched me and came alone. I was a tinsy bit late because I fell asleep again after Jeremy left. He spotted me too.
"Hey Jenny," he shouted from across the hall, "we got lockers next to each other."
"Sweet." I empty my bag. "You got your routine?"
"Yeah. Got yours too." He handed me the schedule.
"We got PE, Math, Science and guess what lunch together."
"Whole week?" I knew it was too much to ask.
"Whole week." He grinned.
"I said sweet already right?" Noah gave me a high five.
"Hey, Ryan!" We turn around to find Lucas McFrey coming towards us. Me and Noah share an irritated look. This guy has tormented me since 3rd grade. We get over competitive about everything and things turn out ugly. But He and Noah are buds. My history with Luke doesn't affect that in anyway.
"PE in 4th. Get ready to get your ass kicked. It's dodgeball." He winked at me and left.
"I hope you are on my team," I looked at Noah
"As you wish Ms. Ryan." Noah bowed at me, "See you in Maths."
My first period was English. I entered the class and immediately my mood faltered. Half of the cheerleading squad had English with me. They are practically the meanest, loudest and bitchiest girls in school. I could see Genevie in her white blouse and navy blue skinny jeans. Skyler with her curly long hair in a black turtle neck. Livia with that constant gum in her mouth and Livia examining her blood red nails.
"Hey look, it is our star girl." Genevie snickered. I gave her a haughty smile. That's how we roll. We're not exactly enemies, but they liked to get under my nerves and I liked to get under theirs.
I am not one of the preppy hot popular ones nor the lame nerdy ones. I am practically in the middle, a soccer player who has a decent choice of style and is popular in her own friendly way. Thus the name star girl.
I took my seat in front of Livia and arranged my belongings on the desk. Mrs. lee was our English teacher this year too. She gave me nightmares all the time. For some reason she doesn't like me and it's the same way around. Half way through the lecture I found myself dizzy. Then the girl behind me, Livia passed me a note.
I knew better than to take part in passing notes during Mrs. Lee's class. But curiosity got the better of me. I looked at Genevie and she was looking at me expectantly. I flipped the note open and found a drawing. A stick girl with hair equal to mines length and the blue top I was wearing. There was an arrow over her head which pointed to FOREVER ALONE
I turned to Genevie and mouthed, "Bitch"
"Ms. Ryan," Mrs. Lee called out to me, "Passing notes I see."
"I wasn't. It.. I got.. I didn't do it."
"Notes and lying."
"Why don't you believe me?" I might've yelled a little.
"How dare you talk like that? Principal's office ."
"But..."
"NOW!!" I heard the cheerleading squad snickering behind me and so did the bickering boys.
