A heart of gold (Grin)

The big boy of the mighty ducks wanted to take a day off.

He sat in his room, surrounded by his crystals, focusing on his breathing. Grin loves this moment of peace, feeling nothing but a calm mind. It doesn't wander as much as before. The big guy used to meditate more often in Puck world, but today was his opportunity to do this a while longer. No one is there to disturb him. All ducks are out, but something seems to get him out of his inner peace.

Something was scratching above him.

Grin tired as much as possible to resist standing up. Half an hour later, it caused a chaos in his mind. He couldn't concentrate anymore. The sooner he finds the cause of this noise, the soon he can go back to meditate. But it seems to be harder than he thought. Grin assumed that nosedive was playing one of his dumb tricks or Duke practiced with his sword, but there was absolutely no one at home. Not even Phil was around; he was on a business trip and won't be back till tonight. The tall duck stopped moving and listened very careful of his surroundings. The scratches came from the air duct. No one of the team would ever fit in those, at least not the ones on the ceiling. With a small ladder and a torch light, he checked out the inside. What he found there, was not what he expected to find.

A bunch of little skunks, pressed against another in fear.

The big guy looked down the duct, not seeing any other animal around. Such small creatures and no mother around made him feel sad. The whimpering of the little ones, go to the tall duck's heart. He couldn't let them up there all alone. With a cloth, the baby skunks had been taken out one by one. Preparing a laundry basket, they all cuddled to another till they formed a large ball. Grin kneeled before it, watching them for a while.

"Are you hungry?"

They were old enough to walk, having already their fur that covers their entire body. One yawned loud; Grin took this as a yes. In the fridge, he only found rows full of food, alongside with all the names of the team members. All except Nosedive had mainly healthy food in their boxes. The young duck seem to like fast food and sweets above anything else. Grin was unsure if he could feed the babies with some candy. Duke had a few boiled eggs left. The big guy didn't want to steal, but he couldn't ask the former thief for permission. Grin made a mental note: get Duke some boiled eggs later on.

From the distance, he could see them all peeking out the basket and in his direction. Hey smelled the eggs across the room. Grin assumed he had to take off the egg shells, but the baby's couldn't wait that long, eating the whole thing. The longer the big guy watched them all; his heart got even more attached to his heart. Slowly, not to scare them, he pointed to one and then to the other, "You are stinky...and you...stanky...stunky... stonky ...ehhhh...pooh!!!" The fifth one left him a present behind, that was far worse than the smell of eggs. Grin took it positive, he found for all names...even for the last one. The stench filled the whole room in minutes, turning Grin's beak green. He cleaned the waste quickly, while opening every air conditioner in the place. It way took a few minutes to spread, but an hour to replace it with fresh air.

Right on time, as the others arrived.

Worried that the team members might throw the little ones out; Grin hides the rascals in his bedroom.

Once he came back into back, he acted like nothing happened. Everyone was starving from their journey to the next town. They had to visit some fans because of Phil, selling VIP tickets to some wealthy people. Grin was not in the mood to join them and it is not like they cared that he was around. Not to bother the team any further, he tried to withdraw and get back in his room in a hurry. Duke however, had some questions to ask the big guy about meditation and Mallory demanded a game of chess. Both needed a way to let out some tension, one way or the other. Grin understands how they feel, having the same problem just now.
