Chapter 5 ~ Darcy

By when we get to Liam’s house, after the GPS almost got us lost, I’m shaking. Lizzie is bouncing on her little feet, but I have a huge knot in my stomach and I feel like running away. I don’t know why I’m so nervous, it’s just a get together thing. All the members of One Direction, Liam’s dog, Lizzie, and I are all going to be there. It’s perfectly normal and harmless, even though I still shake like a fragile leaf in the middle of a tornado.

Lizzie squeezed my hand because she notices how nervous I am. She’s a very perceptive girl who knows me very well. “Don’t worry, Darcy. They will love you as much as I love you… Wait. No, that’s not possible. No one can love Darcy as much as I love her,” she mutters to herself and I chuckle lightly. “They will like you! That’s better. I’m sure they will like you very much, Darcy. You don’t have to be nervous,” she reassures me, and I just want to hug her. Instead I mess with her hair and lovely curls. She laughs and tries to fix her hair quickly before I ring the bell.

A few seconds later, the door opens and a smiley Liam greets us. “Darcy, Lizzie. Welcome,” he says and his eyes linger a bit longer on me, but I try to ignore the fact that I noticed that.

“Hi, Liam!” Lizzie exclaims, ever so excited, and he chuckles, kneeling to be at her height.

“How are you, love? Ready to have fun? All the lads are dying to see you and I have someone special I want you to meet,” he tells her so sweetly, his eyes are smaller as his smile takes over his features. It’s a cute smile; it makes my heart flutter.

I push that feeling away, because I can’t allow myself to experience those kinds of things. I’m here for Lizzie, because she wants to meet and befriend One Direction. I’m not important in this equation, I’m just here making sure she’s okay.

“Really? Oh my Gosh! Are you talking about your dog?” She asks, bouncing again like a little bunny. Liam laughs as he nods, and Lizzie squeals because she’s even more excited.

It’s fun that even though she’s a big fan of theirs, she treats them like any other guys. And she’s just a little kid. She doesn’t cry or scream in their faces like many other fans do. I love my little sister; she’s so clever and sweet.

“I’m sure Brit will love you. Come in and meet her, she’s with the guys,” he tells her, and Lizzie turns to look at me. I just smile and nod so she knows she can run now. Liam points the way she needs to follow and Lizzie sprints as fast as she can. I can’t stop laughing softly at her excitement. She has Liam Payne, her future husband as she loves to say, but she’s more excited for his pet. “She’s full of energy, isn’t she?” Liam comments, standing up and looking at me. I feel his eyes on me, but I don’t turn to look at him.

“Like any other nine-year-old, I guess,” I reply, still avoiding his gaze.

“I’m glad you’re here, Darcy,” he adds, and I tell myself I don’t feel anything when he says my name.

“Thank you for inviting us. Lizzie was really excited. I could tell because today she woke me up even earlier.” He chuckles at my statement but I groan internally. I like sleeping, I like it very much, and having my little sister waking me up at six A.M. on a Saturday is no fun.

“And what about you? Weren’t you a tad excited?” He asks and I gulp, finally looking into his eyes as the suddency of his question astonishes me. He’s serious, and I know he’s waiting for an answer, but I don’t think it’s right to say something.

“Let’s go with the others. I wanna make sure Lizzie didn’t take the wrong way,” I tell him, looking away and starting to walk in the same direction my little sister went minutes before.
