This is Dedicated to Hulkfreak13. She has been anxious for this update and I feel like I owe it to her! Thanks!
I ran down the stairs to our ever faithful garage. Dummy, my dad’s robot helper, greeted me with a gleeful chirp. It’s been a while since I was last down here. I rarely came down here due to the fact that it brought up bad memories. But I had to push those memories aside to do my duty. Walking up to the suit cases dad made for me like his own, I entered the password and scanned my thumb print and the cases opened. Unfortunately, only five of the eight were filled.
My very first suit was in the first case. It’s gold and black metallic armor reflecting and refracting the light. I gently touched it. The metal was cold to the touch and lifeless. This was the one I wore when dad caught me wearing it. Memories of the fight flooded me. I grit my teeth and pulled my hand back. No more! I can’t continue to do this! It would eventually eat me alive if I do!
I walked over to the next one. The colors were all the same. Black and gold. There were a few more gidgets and gadgets added to it. This one… this one hurt to look at. It was the one I wore fighting against Loki. The villain’s laugh kept haunting me, I even have nightmares at times it’s so bad. Maybe this was a curse. One that Loki had put on me in revenge for not being able to control me? It has to be. It must be.
I clenched my fist, thinking about how I nearly killed all my teammates. It wasn’t my fault! Those words kept screaming in my head. They kept screaming, but it’s not always what I believe. I think there was some subconceiousenes that was there. For example, I remember little bits and pieces of what occurred. I had fired multiple missiles at dear Airy and blasted Matthew with a force to be reckoned with. Elizabeth had a better chance and I don’t remember what happened or how I beat her. But Unity had her precious shield.
Unity! Anger filled my vision and my nails scraped on the glass case. This was all her fault! That little patriot. She thinks she’s always in control. She blames this whole thing on me! How dare she! She could’ve tried to stop me! I mean, my memories prove that she didn’t try to stop me! But… then again… my memory isn’t the best as of right now… especially that specific event. But not only then. Since I keep hitting my head and getting knocked out, I have been having memory loss. In fact… what did we have for supper tonight?
“Shadow?” I heard my dad call my name. He came down the stairs. His eyes grew wide as he saw me crumple to the ground. Memories and pain had come back, a full wave. Not just of my former friends, but of my mother too. These past few years have been actual hell on me. Stress, confusion, sadness, depression, all have taken their toll. Dad ran over to me. “Shadow?! Please tell me it’s not the reactor again!”
I shook all over, trying to keep in the sobs. “No. no it’s not. I-i…” Dad lifted me up and I hugged him. “Mom. I miss her!”
Dad’s hand rubbed my back lovingly. It soothed me but not enough to make the shaking and sobs to subside. “I do too Shadow. I really do. She was too young. Her life was too short.” He lifted my head with his hands. “Now, I have a question. What were you doing down here? Especially over here?”
I sniffed, trying to toughen up. “You know how you asked Iron Girl to come back?”
He nodded.
My gaze shifted back to the cases. “Well, she’s coming back.”
Dad’s grin nearly split his face in two. His hug almost did the same to me. “Shadow! You do not understand how proud of you I am!”
“Oh I’m pretty sure I do!” I managed to wheeze. This hug was almost as strong as one of Uncle Thor’s.
“right whoops…” Dad let me go, or more like dropped me. “Shadow,” he bent knelt down to my height, “this is a huge decision. Are you sure you want to do this?”
“Yes. Dad, I need a time filler.”
He laughed, “All righty then, anything else?”
I nodded. “I don’t want to deal with the press or public. There are some people who would be looking for me and I’d rather keep them at arm’s length. I think you know who I’m talking about.”
“Yes I do and that is a good idea. I will do my best okay girlie?”
“Okay.”
Dad stood and got ready to leave but turned back. “Hey, thanks girlie. You do know I love you very much right?”
Tears welled in my eyes and I ran towards him and gave him a hug. I’m still not used to hearing him say that. “I love you too dad.” Dad started to leave but I stopped him again. “Hey dad.”
“Yeah?”
“I’m gonna make another suit before I start back up.”
He grinned. “That’s a very good idea.”
As he left, I went to the giant computer table and started working on the blue prints for my new suit.
