"who is that man in the hat and why is he so grumpy? should i be worried?"
"oh, that's just chū! i should probably get started on his usual."

-"man, i hate this job sometimes." the red-headed short-statured executive mumbled tiredly under his breath. he had woken up extra early for this business deal, just to receive a phone call (not to mention, while he was already well on his way to work) informing him that it would be delayed until later in the day. the result of these unfortunate events?
a terrible morning for chūya nakahara.
the sun was barely past the horizon, orange rays shy enough to occasionally peak through the cover of buildings and bathe themselves across the pavement that clicked under the mafia member's combat boots.
right as he was contemplating whether he'd rather return to his apartment or maybe hang around until later in the day, the bright red led sign of a building in front of him flickered a few times before lighting up completely, catching him off-guard.
'asagiri's coffee lounge!' it read in a practically-ineligible cursive font. checking his watch, he noticed it was 6am, right on the dot. it made sense for a coffee place to open up at a time like this, right?
against his own better judgement of maybe popping a bottle of champagne while napping on the plush leather sofa of his home, chūya decided he could use the caffeine boost and walked into the cafe.
the melodic jingle of the bell on the door handle welcomed him in with a light chime. contemporary jazz music playing on overhead speakers, the soft mechanical whirrs and various other noises of machinery working in the background and of course, the warm scent of freshly ground coffee greeted him as he entered the establishment. it was a pleasant welcoming that seemed to calm down his sour mood by a tad bit.
"oh, i'll be with you shortly!" the voice of a young woman called out to him not too long after. he hesitantly walked towards the counter, taking a second to scan what was on the menus.
after what seemed like a few minutes, chūya was about ready to leave, seeing that it didn't seem like he would be able to order anytime soon.
"s-sorry about the wait! i got here a bit late so i had a few more preparations to do. what can i get you started with?" he was approached by a fidgeting waitress wearing a white blouse and a cream skirt along with an apron. her h/c hair was pulled back, and e/c eyes locked onto his own, waiting for his order. y/n, her name tag read.
"i'll just take a black coffee, no sugar or creamer." chūya stated bluntly, dropping his card onto the counter and sliding it over to the girl without another word. as she took it from the counter surface.
