We have been running for the past hour and every single member of the team is exhausted. But coach is far from letting us have a break.

I stop when I see Jake almost passing out and leaning over Denzel who is trying his best to stay standing as he holds up his and Jake's weight.

"Everything okay here?" I ask trying hard to hide my smirk.

"No!" Jake gasps "I'm dieing. Literally... if I... take another... step... I swear I'll die... But you wouldn't kn...know that. Since you look like you can... Run 50 more laps" he ends in a panting fit.

I chuckle

"Don't sound so defeated. You did better than most of the team." I tell him.

"We can't anymore. You have to tell coach we need a break. I'm pretty sure most of us have done over 20 laps but coach wouldn't know that since he isn't even keeping count anymore" Denzel says.

"Yes... You're team captain... He'll listen to you" Jake offers between pants as he holds himself up and off Denzel's shoulder.

In that moment, coach blows his whistle and shouts

"Come on people! My grandmother can run faster! It's a 400metre track. An average person should be able to run 32 laps in one hour! You're athletes! Give me more game"

"You have got to be kidding me. We play basketball not soccer. We didn't sign up for this" Jake grumbles

"Stewart! I heard that! You've run only 15laps. 15 more to go"

"What? That would make 30. You said we were running 21"

"Oh did I? Well I changed my mind. 30 laps boys!"

Every body grumbles.

"Yeah. You have Stewart to thank for that" Coach laughs and blows his whistle, making all of us flinch. "Get on with it! Getting lazy already. Next time I'll think twice before suspending practice between games" he mumbles, walking away.

Every one who by-passes us throws a comment our way, directed at Jake.

"Great job Stewart"

"Thanks alot man"

"Running your mouth again Stewart"

Jake being Jake decides to ignore the sarcasm in each comment and smiles widely at each of them as they pass by.

"You're most welcome! Of course I'm running my mouth. Someone has to! Atleast I'm bold enough!" He yells after them but mumbles the last part so only Denz and I can hear "Pussies. As if I'm the only one around here who annoys coach"

"Uh. Yes you are." Denzel scoffs

"Me?"

"You're always picking a fight with coach. Everyone knows it"

Jake tries to say something back but decides against it when Denzel challenges him with his eyes to deny it.

I chuckle and pat him on the back.

"Come on. Let's get moving. Coach looks like he's in the mood for another fight. Don't wanna be running anymore more laps." I tell him.

"Good point"

We continue to run for a while and finally end up in our locker rooms at around 5pm.

Once I'm done taking my shower, I walk out into the school halls and find it empty, except for a few cheerleaders who are currently walking home from their own practice.

"Hey Rex!"

I cringe internally once I hear the screeching sound of a female voice that's directed at me.
