(He deserves more love. Slight angst, but don't worry! The things will be resolved in other Shoji chapters. The friend is male and his nickname is Supesu, but I didn't give him a real name. Tiny trigger warning!)
The day your best friend fought with you that's when you met Mezo Shoji. You met your friend on the first day at U.A. He was in the Business Course and you were in the Support Course. He got lost trying to find the way to his classroom, and that's when you found him. You helped Supesu, and he had been attached to you ever since. After school, you two would do the same thing everyday. Go to the convenient store near his house, grab two sodas and chips, and either chill at one of your houses or FaceTime each other. You two were basically best friends from the start. This doesn't happen a lot to people and you both knew how lucky you were to have one another. And not only that, but with what classes you guys were in, you could work together easily. You two didn't participate in the Sports Festival. Both you and him were scouting people who were thought to be good to help in the future. Like, when you were adults and could work for heroes. Izuku Midoriya was one you both liked. Mezo Shoji seemed interesting to you, but you didn't think too much about him. Not until later. The day before your big fight with your friend was different. He didn't go to school that day, the teachers said he was sick. After school, you got the sodas and chips and went to check up on him. You expected him to be in bed or something, but no. He was playing with his little brother sitting on the floor instead.
"I thought you were sick? Why didn't you come to school?" You asked him. He stood up. He had never told you about his family life even though you two were very close. His parents are divorced and his brother lives with their mom, while your friend lives with their dad. So, they don't get to see each other a lot. They both skipped school to spend time together. But you didn't know any of that. To you it just looked like the brothers were just messing around and skipping classes. You didn't like that. School is very important to you, you enjoy going there. But you also like sharing one of your favorite things with your favorite person.
"Did you just ditch me and school to hang out with your little brother? Not cool!" You called out to him. It had been very quiet since you entered the house. The brother continued to play with his toys and listen to you and his brother talk.
"No, I didn't! Well, I guess I did. But you don't understand!" Your friend responded. He sounded desperate to you. Like, if you told someone what you had seen, it would be taken away from him.
"Then make me understand! We are best friends, Supesu. You can tell me anything."
"I will. I'll tell you tomorrow. Don't tell anyone what you saw. Please,"
You thought about it and nodded. You went out of his house and went to your own. The walk home you wondered why he wouldn't tell you his reason for ditching. You have never really gotten the whole concept of family being important, because you've been alone since you could remember. To distract yourself from loneliness, you focus on learning. Learning anything and everything. As a child, you loved the way that heroes looked like their costumes and gear. Once you got to middle school you knew that that was what you wanted to do with your life. The next day, things were normal. Well, kind of. Supesu was there, but he didn't talk to you or say hello like usual. Even when you tried to talk to him, he ignored you. It went on like this until lunch. That's when you pulled your so-called friend aside in the hallway to talk.
"You haven't talked to me all day. You said that you would tell me why you skipped. Now tell me, please." You pushed him against the wall. He looked unfazed by your words and actions. Supesu pried your hands off of him.
"Alright. I'll tell you why. But you have to say that you won't get upset. Because I know how you are about the rules," he said.
"I won't get mad."
"I was spending time with my brother. I skipped school, because I don't get to see him that often. My parents don't like it when we hang out, either. So, my time with him is scarce."
"That's why you broke the rules? Just to be with your little brother?" You asked, confused. Why would he do that? Family isn't worth it.
"Wait, you don't actually understand? I'd do anything for my family. Even my mom."
"But why?" You asked.
"Look you probably won't get it ever, because you! Don't. Have. Any. Family!" Supesu yelled at you. You covered your ears, he was quite loud when he needed to be. He hit the wall with his hand and left, while you started to cry. You didn't know why you cried, you never really cried over someone. Just then a boy with lots of arms came up behind you.
"Are you okay? Did he hurt you?" He said. You were scared by the new voice and turned to face him. Mezo Shoji. You knew who he was from the festival. He took one of his many hands and wiped some of your tears from your cheek. He asked if you were okay again. You tried to say yes, but tears kept slowly rolling down your face. You sat on the floor trying to stop your eyes from exhaling fluids. Shoji came next to you and hugged you reluctantly. He mostly keeps to himself, but someone was crying. He couldn't tell if you were emotionally or physically hurt, or both. Shoji was in the Hero Course so it's his job to help people. After your eyes ran out of tears to cry, he started to ask his questions.
"Can you talk now? Are you okay? I heard a loud bang."
"Yes. I'm physically fine. But my friend and I fought and we've never fought before. And... he hit the wall near me, that was the noise," you explained to him. Shoji padded your back sorely.
"Do you need to talk about it? I'm Mezo Shoji and I know that you are (Y/N) (L/N) from the support course." Your eyes widened. Why would someone know who I am? He's the one in the Hero course. You told him about what happened and he said some helpful things. The bell rang for classes to start again and you both agreed to meet up after school. Shoji would help you get your friend back.
