"Madame Latouse's Fun Emporium," Bellamy read in a soft tone, trying to keep his voice from bouncing around the deserted subway tunnels.
I dipped my shoe into a small water puddle as I waited beside him, wincing slightly as my sock soaked in some of the dampness and wrenching my foot out. Bellamy used his flashlight to scan the surrounding area, but it was deserted apart from empty bottles, cans, and ancient fast food bags. Bellamy made to knock on the door, then, but I stopped him with a gentle hand and pushed him back slightly. "Let me," I said.
Bellamy, although slightly confused, took a small step back and motioned me forward, still holding the beam of his flashlight on the metal door in front of us. It felt odd to be standing on the tracks, but this was the only way to get where I needed to be, and its not like there were any trains running anyway. "Did you forget how to knock?"
I scowled at Bellamy and he let out a small chuckle. Letting my closed fist hit the door a few times, a loud thump echoed through the tunnels that made me glance at the boy behind me nervously.
I waited for a few moments before a small slit shot open mid-door, revealing a pair of sharp, soul-piercing eyes. "What do you want?"
Well, if that voice wasn't nasally, then I don't know what it was. For a moment, I couldn't respond, and just stared back at the eyes and stuttered. "Uhh...I was just--we were--"
Bellamy shoved past me with a confident smile, making me stumble slightly before righting myself on his arm. "We're here to talk to Madame Latouse about a man who went missing a week or so ago--"
"You bore me. I'm not interested." The slit shut. The muffled music that could be heard stopped abruptly as it shut and I frowned.
I raised my brows and looked at him with amused eyes. "Wow. Way to tell a captivating story."
"Well at least I could tell a story," he retorted, pounding on the door again. "Miss Bundle of Nerves."
Whoosh! "What?" The voice sounded again, this time with narrowed eyes and the starts of darting eyebrows.
"Uh...I was arrested for attempted murder but it was actually my doppelganger?"
The eyes seemed to contemplate what Bellamy had said and I shot him a look of disdain.
