Hubert was nervous. He'd been planning this for months. He consulted his allies, friends and even Lady Edelgard in the matter. His mind was becoming more and more anxious as each second passed. He sat there trembling and sweating, thinking of every bad thing that could happen that night.
In his hand sat a box. A small fragile box laced with velvet fabric and golden metallic corners. Inside the box layed a small plush pillow, within it resting a ring. The ring was silver wrapped with pure golden vines, topped with a fine emerald. He kept opening it to make sure it was still there, in the rare case it fell out and was nowhere to be seen.
He awaited his lover's arrival, for they were having tea and coffee(their preferences for hot drinks are very different). "What if he forgot? What if he didn't want to come for some odd reason?! What if-". His thoughts were interrupted by a shadow peering through the doorway.
"Hubert! I'm sorry if I was a bit late, I was held back at a meeting discussing territory disputes and such." His lover said.
"Oh, it's fine, Ferdinand. I just arrived." He said while looking at his lover. He didn't think that Ferdinand would deck himself for a small date, or at least Ferdie didn't know it wasn't a small date. He wore a navy blue jacket with a red button up shirt decked with golden patterns laced around it, and to top it off, pristine snowy white gloves. All Hubert wore was a black coat with silver buttons and a standard undershirt.
"Looks like I came a bit underdressed. You look lovely, my beloved." Hubert spoke.
Ferdinand's face was tinted red, as he uttered, "Oh, you look pretty fine yourself, love. I do appreciate the compliment though!"
They remained silent for a few seconds, just awkwardly waiting for one to say something.
"Umm, well how about you take a seat." Hubert said as he pointed to the chair across from him.
"Don't mind if I do!" The other spoke.
Ferdinand grabbed his seat and sat down, whilst trying to fix his outfit so he could look perfect for his dear beloved. Hubert blushed, and thought to himself, "Oh Gods I love this man so much."
They laced their fingers together and looked to one another. They broke out into conversation, talking about their days, war council, how their territories are holding up, and just how much they adore each other.
Hubert almost forgot about the ring. After about fifteen minutes of talking, his hands were getting sweaty and clammy from holding it and it was starting to slip out of his palm. He tried to set it on his lap, but his plan didn't work and it fell onto the ground.
Ferdinand noticed almost immediately as soon as he heard it thump onto the ground.
"Don't worry, I'll get it for you!" Exclaimed Ferdinand.
Hubert tried to tell him to stop, but it was too late. Ferdinand lifted the small box up, not realizing what it was at first.
"Ah, it's so pretty! What is it-" he cut himself off as soon as he realized what it was.
He placed it onto the table and put a hand to his mouth. He looked at the box, then to Hubert. His eyes started to get glossy.
"H-Hubert..."
Hubert was a bit upset. He wanted the proposal to be a surprise, but his plan failed. Onto plan B for him.
Hubert grabbed the tiny box. He stood up and walked to Ferdinand's side, then he arched himself on one knee, trying not to lose balance due to his uncontrollable shaking because of the pure anxiety he had about his lover rejecting him.
"I had a speech planned for this, but I can't seem to remember it very well." He cleared his throat. "Ferdinand von Aeigr, I have loved you for what feels like decades. You have been the star that lights this whole world up, and I want to experience the rest of my life in this world with you. So, will you accept this ring, and become Ferdinand von Vestra?" He finished as he opened the box to reveal the silvery ring inside of it.
Ferdinand was silent. He was quaking, trying to keep his tears in.
"Hubert, I.. love y-you so much. I will be glad t-to be... Ferdinand von Vestra."
Hubert proceeded to anxiously put the ring on his lover's finger, fitting perfectly into place.
Both of them stood up as they began to embrace each other. Ferdinand dug his face into Huberts chest, while clinging onto him. Hubert returned the gesture by hugging him back. He swept Ferdinand's bright hair out of his face. His eyes were filled with tears and his face was very red.
"Are you alright?!" Hubert asked, scared that he upset his beloved.
"Y-yes, I'm alright. Just very uneasy. I'm so excited and... oh dear, I may have gone overboard. I feel as though I may faint."
"Here, you can use me as support if you must!"
"Oh, yes. That'd be nice."
He put his arms over Hubert's shoulders, while nesting his head into his chest once again. Hubert blushed, and kissed Ferdinand on the top of his head.
Ferdinand looked up at Hubert, and to his surprise, he was smiling, a bit giggly actually.
"Hubert, I love you. Never forget that."
"Same to you, my darling fiance."
They laced each other's hands together. Both of them had a smile on their face, both even blushing at times. They got a bit closer as each minute went by. Ferdinand then stood up a bit higher and kissed Hubert. Hubert was a bit startled, but he got into it. They left each other's grasp and just held hands.
They left very happy that day, waiting for the next days, months, years and decades to come.
( sorry it's a bit fast, I didn't want it to be too long)
