*yawns " Good Morning Guys! " I greeted.
I stretched my muscles and headed down to shower.
" Morning girls, " Jack and Richard said together as they descended down the stairs.
" Morning! " Hazel and Samantha replied. They were busy preparing breakfast.
After I showered, Jack showered. Richard was up in his sleeping bag reading a book.
" I think we should just chill in the cabin today, we're going home tomorrow morning after all, " Hazel said. " We should enjoy this cabin before having to leave it "
" True, then we just stay in the cabin! " I declared.
Throughout the day, I keep sneaking up to the loft with Richard to talk.
" Richard! Last night I saw the thief! It's from Jack! I heard the voice, " I blabbered. I spilled everything I saw about last night.
" Okay, so what should we do next? " Richard asked.
" I don't know, " I replied. I remembered that everyone can be the culprit, it could've been me too, so I better watch what I say.
" Okay, maybe tonight you should spy on the thief again, and then tomorrow morning before we leave we interrogate our friends, " Richard said. That is just a stupid plan.
" Okay, " I replied. I need to keep faking.
After talking, we continued doing our business. Some of us read, play with our phones, cook, eat, and much more.
' Okay, I have to be ready for anything, tonight, I hide my flashlight in my sleeping bag, when the thief looks through my bag, I shine a bright light on him, reveal who he is, and catch him red-handed ' I thought to myself. Suddenly I thought of a better idea, I'm gonna put my velvet box right on top of my bag, that way it will attract the thieves attention, but when he takes it, he is in for a big surprise, there is no brooch inside the box, I will hide my brooch in my backpack. Great plan!
That night I went to bed early. Not because I am sleepy, but because I have to hide my flashlight and hide my brooch. I tiptoed upstairs and hid my flashlight and brooch. I slipped into my sleeping bag and pretended to sleep.
" Good Night Josephine, " Richard said. I pretended to keep sleeping.
NIght came. I was ready to catch the thief in the act. I moved my body so I would be facing my bag. I kept my eyes closed but my ears sharp. Any sound I will catch.
It got late, but I didn't hear any rustling sounds. What? The thief isn't gonna strike? I opened my eyes a bit and suddenly I saw a light shone everywhere.
' The thief must be making sure everyone is asleep! This is my chance ' I thought.
I carefully grabbed my flashlight and standed up to shine the light on the thief.
" Freeze! " I shouted. I was trying to pretend like I'm a cop but I quickly regretted that decision. I suck at playing cop.
I moved my flashlight to the thief's direction.
" Richard?! " I exclaimed.
My shout woke everyone up and just in seconds, the cabin was already crowded with people talking.
" Richard! How could you? I thought we were friends, best friends, a couple! " I shrieked.
" Well, if you didn't know, this brooch belongs to MY family! " Richard shouted.
" How? " I asked. This was getting weird.
" Didn't you know? A long- long time ago, in the 17 hundreds... Your great-great-grandparents stole the brooch from MY family! " Richard said.
I just stayed still listening, this is something new for me.
" It was a grey, stormy night, my great-great-grandparents were just sitting in the living room watching black and white TV, suddenly, the room blacked out and went back on. That time was when your great-great-grandparents struck. They raced to my grandma's bedroom and stole the velvet maroon box. I'm just here to grab what was once my possession, " Richard said.
" Really? " I asked. I wasn't really sure.
" Yeah, duh! " Richard replied.
" So? We still boyfriend-girlfriend? " I asked. I didn't want to lose Richard to this misunderstanding.
" Nope, sorry, I was just faking to like you, I knew you were spying and I wanted to get more information, bye guys, I'm going, " Richard said. He grabbed his bag and left the cabin, leaving me crying my heart out.
That was one of the most traumatizing experiences of my life. I didn't know about my family history and now my friendship with Richard is busted. Why do I have to be so nosy? Ugh. So yeah, that's how my tragic first love story ended.
Miserably.
Done and done!
