Peter's fingers clasped at the cold ceramic bowl he was hunched over; his knees pressed against the hard tile floor; his burning forehead rested against the cool toilet seat; his sweaty hair clung to his forehead, sticking to it like glue; his throat burnt from his near hour long puking session.
"Peter, where are you? Happy's waiting to drive you to school." Natasha called for him as she walked into his room. Peter groaned from his place hugging the toilet in the ensuite bathroom. "Pete? What's wrong?" He heard her walk into the room, her footsteps twice as loud as usual not helping the pounding behind his eyes. Before he could answer, his stomach emptied itself into the toilet leaving him feeling like he'd shrink if he puked one more time. "Oh, honey." Natasha winced, putting her hand on his head. "God, you're really burning up." The sick boy leant into his mother's cool, soft hand as a shiver over took his entire body. "Do you want to have a cold shower while I call your teacher and let them know you aren't coming in?" She asked softly, voice low and gentle while stroking sweat ridden hair out of Peter's face.
"It's so cold though." His teeth chattered as he mumbled, pressing his head further into her calming hands.
"Peter, baby, you're burning up. JARVIS? What's his temperature reading at?"
"39°C Miss Romanoff. I'll contact his school and let them know Peter is ill, shall I also inform Dr Banner and Dr Cho?"
"Thank you JARVIS. Pete, do you want Bruce to give you a check up? You're eight degrees hotter than you should be. I'm pretty sure you should be in hospital." Peter shook his head slowly. "That's okay JARVIS, maybe grab Wanda though, it always cheers Peter up to see her."
"Of course miss Romanoff." The AI replied, a little unsure but he had to follow orders.Five minutes later, Natasha was knelt on the floor behind Peter, rubbing his back gently as he puked again. She couldn't help but notice how little he'd moved and worried whatever had made him ill was weakening his muscles and stiffening his joints. Wanda quietly knocked on the bathroom door before walking in.
"Hey Petey." She smirked. Peter made a rough noise of acknowledgement.
"Hey, Wanda. Do you mind sitting with him for a bit? I have some calls to make." Natasha asked, unmoved from her spot.
"Of course." The younger woman knelt down, brushed a gentle kiss to Peter's cheek which made him smile softly, and started running a gentle hand in circles around his back as Natasha stood.
"I'll be back soon." Natasha whispered. They stayed quiet for quite some time, Peter slumped sideways against the witch's solid form but left his hands on the side in the toilet, straining his arms.
"Pete, it's okay to let go. If you start gagging I can lift you up no problem." Wanda murmered gently against the top of his head.
"I can't let go." He coughed.
"Yeah you can. I've got you." She was gentle and soft.
"No, Wanda, seriously. I physically cannot let go. It's like I've been super glued to the toilet and I don't wanna scare mama so I didn't say anything." Wanda didn't answer but flicked her wrist and writhed her fingers. Red trendils slowly reached Peter's hands and gently pried them off the ceramic.
"Better?" She asked once he'd curled into a ball in her lap.
"I don't know what's wrong with me." Tears started slipping down the boy's pale face. Wanda panicked momentarily before pulling him further into her arms and hugging him tightly.
"I don't know either Pete, but I've got you. I'm always going to have your back." The witch kissed her brother's head, comforting him in the only way she knew how.
"I'm scared, Wanda." Peter whimpered, sinking even further into her hold, she hadn't thought it possible.
"I know, I know." They were quiet again and Peter fell asleep curled up on his sister; despite the situation, Wanda smiled. Not many people felt confident enough in her to completely let their guard down - many believed she didn't have enough control over her powers, others that she wasn't really on the good side. But Peter always felt completely comfortable with her around - not to be cocky but she was willing to go as far as say he felt more safe with her around than most the team (though ultimately the person who made him most secure was Natasha and she knew that would always be the case). But she was a big sister and this peace was not going to last, once he woke up she knew she was going to tease him to hell and back.
