Our mayor was on a stage in the middle of the square. “Settle down, settle down. I am sure you are all anxious to see who is chosen so, without further ado your commander, John Mancin!” he said with his high pitched mouse-like voice.
“Good morning ladies and gentlemen,” John said in a low, gravelly voice. “I am sure you are excited for today because I certainly am. So, as usual I am will call out the students alphabetically by last name,”
While he was calling students it just sounded like noise until I heard one name that stuck out like a sore thumb. Alia Jeralds I was so excited for her but I still hadn’t heard my name so I sat there waiting, and waiting, and waiting. Even after everyone had left, the square was empty, and the builders were taking down the stage. I heard someone come up behind me while I sat there. “ You ok June?” I heard Alia say. She was the last person I wanted to see right now.
“ I guess, I just don’t understand I mean I was better then you at everything and you made it. You betrayed me, left me behind. What did you do to make him take you and why? Where you just trying to hurt me?? I bet you where! God, what kind of friend are you! The only thing I have ever wanted and you take it from me!!” I yelled at the top of my lungs. I was so mad I had no clue what I was saying and I didn’t realise how mean that was.
“I didn’t want this! Ok, I wanted you to get chosen! I wanted, if anything, for us to go together. I know this was your dream but my goodness I didn’t do anything to get him to pick me,at least to my power,” Alia yelled even louder and I was silent for a moment. “June you are my best friend, I would never want to take this from you. Never,” she said with so much sincerity it hurt. I just stood there though, didn’t say anything didn’t even move towards her just sat there. She ended up leaving and I don’t know how long I sat there but on the way back the square didn’t look or feel the same. It seemed dark and gloomy, all the cheer was gone and it was the same old square I have known.
At home my parents were waiting for me, they wanted to talk things out. I didn’t want to talk, I wanted to go lay in my bed and cry my eyes out, anything but talk. So,I just walked in and turned on one of the many Teleport 3000s and typed in June’s room not caring if I got into trouble for using it. In my room, I turned my sleeping pod onto boat gently rocking, and went to sleep.
I woke up to my pod’s screen lighting up. Alia sent me an IM saying: I found a way to get you to space school if you could forgive me… I replied as fast as I could: Only if you could forgive me first. Call me.
