The Commander's Story

Chapter 6

Everyone in the room was looking at me but I didn’t care. All I was worried about was how someone so good looking could be so mean and rude. I walked through the small hallways suddenly thinking that nap sounded great. As I walked into the bunk I saw the commander sitting on my bed looking through my stuff. He looked up and said “ Well you are quite the little sneak aren’t you?”

“Wh-What do you mean?” I replied stuttering.

“You are not Cahalie are you,June,”

“I-I-I don’t know what you mean,” I said looking down not wanting to look at his piercing eyes.

“ You snuck into this school. You are June Colli and I didn’t choose you for a reason. You should not have come and I am going to send you back,” he said with an evil smirk.

“Please don’t! Please this is my life and this all I have ever wanted! I can prove to you I deserve to be here. Just give me a chance,” I pleaded hoping he would say yes. He sat there for a minute thinking.

“Listen, since you are already here I am going to give you a chance. You have three days if you mess up even once you are going straight back,” the commander says sighing and standing up off my bed.

“ Yay! Oh thank you so much you won’t be sorry I promise!” I exclaim running jumping into his arms, but he doesn’t catch me and I fall flat on my face.

“I’m sure you won’t let me down,” he said stepping over me and walking out of the room turning around once he got to the door frame to say “Oh ya and you will be addressed, here, as Cahalie.”

“Fine by me,sir. Fine by me.” I say and once he closed the door I jumped and danced around with happiness. Alia and some of the other girls came in and just stared at me like I was insane.

“ June, are you ok. We saw what happened with Torin and we were worried about you,” Alia said with genuine concern on her face. I had completely forgotten about what had happened in the rec. room and that I was supposed to be taking a nap. I am sure I looked like I was going crazy. Now I knew the boys name though, maybe I could use that to get him to like me.Wait what am I thinking this guy was obviously a jerk and I should be spending my time studying.

“ I am ok. Haha Just really… happy” I said as I looked at Alia trying to talk to her with my eyes and I think she got the message.

“ Hey girls I think June might be having a nervous breakdown so if you could give us a minute,” Alia said ushering the girls out of the bunk. She then turned around and looked me in the eye. With that look I knew she understood.

“ What happened?”

“ The Commander came-”

“ Wait the Commander came? What did he say? Why was he here? What happened??” Alia said completely cutting me off.

“ Well, if you would have listened instead of jumping into talking you would know by now!” I said glaring at her “ anyway, yes the commander came and he knew I snuck in here but he is giving me one chance!” I said excitedly.

“ Really! That’s great!” Alia said jumping around with me.

“ Ya I just have to make sure I don’t break any rules and I have to work harder than I ever have,” I said thinking about it already and making my study schedule in my head.

“ Oh, I forgot to tell you the reason we came up here. Torin feels really bad about what he said and he wants to make it up to you,” Alia soid with a huge smile on her face.

“ Really?” I exclaimed jumping up and down. Maybe he wasn’t such a horrible person. Alia and I went back down to the rec room. Torin was standing there waiting for me.

“ I am so sorry! I was just losing in my game and I was really stressed. I hope you can forgive me, ah, whats you name again?” Torin said talking incredibly fast.

“Listen, listen it’s ok! I forgive you completely. Oh, and my name is Ju- Cahalie but you can call me June,” I said beaming so huge my mouth hurt.

“ Good,” he replied with what looked like an even bigger smile and held out his hand “ would you like to take a walk with me June?”  I looked over my shoulder seeing Alia giving me the thumbs up sign so I turned around and took Torin’s hand. His hand was huge and rough but it seemed like our hands fit perfectly.

“ Yes I would,” I was so excited. I had huge butterflies in my stomach.

As we walked around the corner we saw the Commander with someone talking. Torin and I whipped back and listened to what they were saying.

“ You will say nothing about this! You never saw me in that safe! Understood?” the commander said sternly. As we peeked around the corner we saw a poor little kid from one of the groups nodding his head vigorously and the commander sticking a wad of money in his belt putting his shirt over it. He walked away from us and the boy walked towards us. Torin and I tuned and acted like we were walking in the direction we came. The kid sped past us with red eyes.

    “ What do we do?” Torin asked with wide eyes. I figured he saw the money too.

    “ We don’t do anything. I don’t anyway. I can’t tell you why but I can not get in trouble here,” I said walking fast back to the Rec room.

    “ What do you mean we can’t do anything!” Torin yelled.

“ I can’t! I never said you can’t, but who would we tell? The Commander?” I yelled back with major attitude.

“ I-I don’t know but I will figure it out!” Torin said back knowing I was right.

We walked back into the Rec room and I let out the breath I didn’t know I was holding in. Torin went over by his buddies with his head down and Alia walked up to me, by the door, with a huge smile on her face.

“Well? How did it go? Are you two together now?” Alia said expectantly.

“ No,” is all I said.

“ No? What happened? Did you guys fight again? Gosh, what did you do this time?” she said putting her hand on her hip.

“ I didn’t do anything he was the one who wanted to- ugh nevermind I’m gonna go study,” I said turning back out the door and going to my bunk room.
