chapter 3, what's with the pogues?

That morning Reese woke to sounds of machinery and foreign voices. She leaned over to grab her phone noticing the No Service button in the top left corner she rolled her eyes sitting up in her Queen size bed. She rubbed the sleep out of her eyes as the sun hit them.

"Reese!" she heard her older brother shout.

"Oh my god." she said quietly. "What?" she yelled back.

"Dad wants us," he responded. The girl sighed pulling an oversized t-shirt over her bare midriff, proceeding to walk down the spiral staircase seeing her father and brother on the porch.

"Good morning Reese" her father said as she walked over to place a kiss on his cheek something she'd be taught to do.

"Hi Dad" she said sweetly.

"So what's up?" Tyler asked pushing his hair back.

"Well I need you two to do something for me today." he said walking around his hands placed posh-like behind his back. "I need you to take the smaller boat for a drive, I don't want the engine to get rusty. I also think that you two should spend more times together." The girl rolled her eyes looking to her brother who had the same reaction.

"Do both of us really need to go?" the boy asked.

"Yes." her father said sternly.

"Okay." the girl said reluctantly.

"Thank you Reese, Tyler?" Jacob said.

"Yes sir we'll do that." Tyler said looking towards me.

Once she had gotten ready Tyler was already waiting for her in the boat. Reese looked around at the few fallen trees and the workers her father had hired hard at work cleaning the mess. She wondered what the Cut would like and how long it would take to clean up, but she didn't really care, or maybe she did.

"Why do girls take so long to get ready?" her brother asked as she pushed the sunglasses from her eyes so they rested on the top of her head.

"Shut up it took me like 10 minutes," she scoffed laying down on the boat seats.

"Whatever." Tyler said as he drove the boat.

"Where are we going?" she asked the boy once they'd been driving for a bit.

"Well I'm getting off at the country club. And you have to drive the boat the rest of the way." he said laughing.

"What the fuck Tyler? No." she said angrily sitting up from her position.

"Sorry sis, I got myself a date." he said as the boat settled into a dock near the country club.

"No, Tyler!" The girl said standing up and trying to grab a hold of her brother, but there was no point he was off the boat by the time she got to him. "Fuck!" she said exasperated "I hope she gives you an STD Ty!" she yelled after him. Her eyes looked down to the steering wheel and she praised God for her mother teaching her how to drive a boat when she was 11. She decided to head into the marsh to one of her favorite parts of the water to tan. The sun would hit her body perfectly and she wouldn't have to worry about anyone bothering her, or so she thought.

As she drove into the marsh she saw the boat no Kook ever wanted to see, the HMS Pogue. The girl scoffed as she noticed that they whole crew seemed to be in the water. She pulled her boat as close as she could to the boat since they were in her spot.

"You guys saw that?" she heard the blonde boy come out of the water.

"Yeah.Yeah I did. " Pope said.

"What the.." the boys said laughing.

"That's a Grady White. A new one of those is like 500 G's, easy." JJ said 'of course all he cared about was any sort of money' the girl thought while sitting overhearing their conversation. "That's a promo rig"

"Yeah- that's the boat I saw when I surfed t-" he paused noticing the Kook. "Reese?"

"Pogues." the girl said placing the sunglasses to cover her eyes.

"Uh" the 4 friends uncomfortably groaned at the girl's presence.

"Oh please continue. I'll just be here." the girl said laying her body on the front of the boat.

"Okay then." JJ said

"As I was saying that's the boat I saw when I surfed the surge, maybe it hit the jetty or something." John said keeping his voice quiet.

"You surfed the surge?" Kie asked.

"Yeah. That's my boy. Pogue style." JJ said turning his eyes toward the blonde in the other boat.

"She surfed it too." John said whispering in JJ's ear

"What the hell?" Kie said staring intensely at the two boys in front of her.

As the girl sat looking at the sky she hummed a soft tune whilst trying to tune out the loud whispering of the friends next to her. Her attention was brought back as she heard a splash into the water as John B sunk to the bottom. That's when the girl stood up grabbing the shirt that was still on her body and took it off as the sun was getting unbearable with the extra layer of clothing.

JJ watched as the girl took off her shirt the way her body curved in the perfect places and the sun highlighted each patch of her skin. But the boy had way to much against the girl to let his hormones take over. Her eyes met his as she gave him a soft, but petty wave as it was his turn to send her a middle finger. She scoffed laughing at the boy.

John had still not resurfaced and Reese was pretending not to care but she watched carefully at the spot where he had jumped in, waiting for his body. Then finally she heard coughing, which I guess meant he was alive.

"Oh, my God. That took forever!" Kie said helping the boy aboard.

"Any dead bodies?" Pope asked. 'Good ol' Pope.' she thought.

"Looting potential?" JJ asked.

"No. No." John said peeling his eyes toward the girl and hushing his tone "I found this motel key."

"A key." Pope said clearly disappointed.

"Yes, a key, Pope." John said aggravation in his tone.

"Great! We salvaged a motel key." JJ said throwing his hand in the air and going to sit so his body was facing the girl in the boat. Reese could feel his eyes on her as she turned her head to face him as he whipped his head back around to his friends.

"Guys, we should report the wreck to the coast guard." Kie said as John started up the motor, which caught the attention of Reese. "Maybe we'll get a finder's fee."

"Yeah, and not work all summer. Thanks, Agatha, ya batch." JJ said as the boat started to move he looked at the girl who was watching them leave. The one girl he wanted to understand and he couldn't figure her out.

"Bye Pogues!" the girl shouted as Kie sent her a bitchy stare. With the disappearance of the Pogues the girl moved her boat into the spot where theirs was. She looked down into the water confirming what they were saying, a Grady White, seemed interesting. The curiosity of the boat bubbled within her just like it had with the Pogues.
