chapter six

Today was great, really really great. Note the sarcasm. That karate kid made my day a living hell and to think she was the one who said I should stay away from her.

Lunch break was even worse, she was by my side the whole time, talking nonsense. Danny is so going to pay for all the suffering I am going through. He could have given me a better job maybe at a small company or factory not at some stupid restaurant with crazy employees.

Dave told me the official closing time of the restaurant was 9p.m but there were designated time for employees to work. I was on a morning to afternoon shift(7a.m-3p.m)and unfortunately for me, Camilla worked during that period too. According to him, he said most times the restaurant always closed before 9p.m when there weren't many customers at nights. I was done with today's work and I headed to my car which was parked in front of the restaurant.

There stood my worst nightmare, Camilla, okay maybe I was exaggerating a bit but her voice alone gave me headaches. She stood in front of my car and I could tell she was waiting for someone. Ignoring her presence, I unlocked my small portable car and entered. As I was about to start the car, Camilla also entered and sat in the passenger seat. I looked at her and waited for her to say whatever she wanted to say so she could get out, she also looked at me with those annoying but beautiful eyes of hers.

She gestured towards the car"Aren't you going to start the car so we can head home "

Oh, now I get it, we are living in the same building so she wants to follow me. So dumb, so so dumb, I am not driving you home, girl.

"Get out "

She looked at me with a smile and replied happily " I am not going anywhere till you take me home and trust me, I've got all the time in the world. You know, people do tell me I am stubborn and I am about to prove that to you."

If she thinks she is stubborn, I am about to show her who is the boss. The engine roared to life as I started the car and headed towards the opposite direction of where we lived.

"Hey, where are you going? The building is that way"

I ignored her question and drove towards the destination I had in mind. After pestering me for sometime, I finally answered her question " Relax, I just want to buy some food at my favourite Chinese restaurant"

"wow, I never took you as the type of guy who loves Chinese food "

She can't judge me if she doesn't know anything about me. We've only known each other for a week or two.

"that is because you do not know anything about me "

"well, that's true but I'd choose Italian food over Chinese food any day "

Is she trying to start a conversation with me? Bet she will never talk to me if she figures out how I am about to punish her. A comfortable silence ensued for some minutes before I drove into the restaurant's parking lot and waited for her to get down.

"Get down, let's go in "

"Nah, you go order whatever you want, I'll sit in the car"

"Dude, I know little to nothing about you, you're literally a stranger to me so you can't be in my car alone "

"Fine I'll get out and by the way don't you ever call me a dude"

she fiddled with the locks of the car before she finally stepped out. I didn't even wait to see her reaction as I zoomed off like a mad man and ditched her at the restaurant.

I walked into my apartment and collapsed on the couch. All that had happened today really drained my energy and what I need right now is a good sleep. I hope Camilla finds her way back home.

Ever since I came here, I haven't been in contact with any of my family members. They believed I was on a 'vacation ' which is a little bit true. I am on a vacation from work. Mom tried calling me a few times but I didn't want to deal with my father so I ignored her calls. I think it's high time I talk to her.

I fished out my phone from my pocket, scrolling through my contacts and landing on who I wanted to talk to. A few seconds later, I heard her voice. I've missed her so badly.

" My boy, you finally called. Mommy misses you, why haven't you been answering my calls"

I definitely missed those times when she'd treat me like a baby. According to her, I'll always be her baby boy no matter my age. Her voice alone was able to calm my worries and I couldn't wait for these three months to end so I could see her. Yeah, I am totally a momma's boy.

"Mom, I am on a vacation, no stress no worries, I've been taking my time getting used to the new environment and traditions here so it didn't really cross my mind to check up on you"

Everyone at home believed I was in Rome but the sad truth is that I am still here, in Texas!

"so you are saying you forgot about your precious mom"

I chuckled softly "no mom, why will I do that, so how is Amber, is she back from New York"

"yes, when I told her you had gone on a vacation, she threw a tantrum and was talking about how you could have waited for her so the two of you could go together "

That is something Amber Thompson can do. Such a spoilt brat but I love and adore her so much. She is my little sister and she's currently studying fashion designing at fashion institute of technology, New York.

"Give her the phone, let me talk to her"

I chatted with Amber for about an hour before I ended the call. We were catching up on lots of things and I guess became unconscious of time since it was now 5p.m. I realized I also had to call Danny to explain everything that has been happening.

"so what you are trying to tell me is that they are best friends but are opposites, one is crazy and lousy while the other one is kind and meek"

I told Danny everything about my new neighbors especially Camilla. I explained every single detail of what had happened from day one till present to him.

"yeah "

"I already love the crazy one, bro"

If only you knew her Danny, I'm sure you'll beg for your sanity. But of course, I wasn't going to tell him that, he'll probably argue.

"You haven't met her yet, idiot "

"yeah, that's true but why don't you hang out with that Kayla girl and see if she's worth a shot "

Wow and that thought never crossed my mind. It's actually a brilliant suggestion. She's nice, pretty, simple and not crazy. What more do I want in a girl. She's certainly the one for me.

"now I know why I keep you around, you are a genius, I'll go ask her if her offer to show me around still stands. Bye"

I walked out of my apartment and advanced towards Kayla's apartment. Maybe I have finally found my soulmate.
