any human being with eyes could see that y/n had feelings for the one and only sirius black. her pining was quite obvious. the way she would stare at him with such adoration, the way she was easily flustered by him simply smiling at her. but as the years progressed, y/n started to realize how emotionally taxing it was to have feelings for someone that flirts with other people all the time, guys and girls alike.

at first, she didn't mind it because she knew that sirius just had a flirty personality, and he flirted with her a lot so she was kind of blind to how much sirius actually flirts with others. but by now, y/n knew he flirted with others the way he flirted with her. y/n didn't like that, it made her feel like her feelings for him were pointless. if anyone else were in y/n's place they would probably try to get over their feelings for sirius as soon as possible, but her feelings were too intense to just get rid of. so y/n decided to branch out, if she couldn't get rid of her feelings she might as well try to forget about them by flirting with others, maybe then she could finally move on.

the first time y/n did this was in her monday morning potions class. slytherins and gryffindors were mixed in that class so she was seated with her 2 very close friends remus and regulus, and one other guy from slytherin, his name was daniel. all throughout potions class y/n flirted with daniel, making cheeky and slightly suggested remarks and leaving lingering touches on his arms. and daniel kept that same energy and flirted back. for the first time in a long time y/n wasn't focused on her feelings for sirius, and it felt nice! it felt freeing! y/n was so wrapped up in that feeling that she didn't notice sirius sitting a few seats away, staring at her and daniel with a scowl on his face.

james tapped sirius on the shoulder. "dude you alright? you've been staring at y/n and her partner for like 5 minutes."

"who is that guy?" sirius asked. "why is he so close to y/n? why is she smiling at him like that?"

"i dont why it matters but i think his name is like daniel or something. it looks like they're flirting. why, are you jealous or something?" james answered.

"I'm not jealous, I just don't want y/n to fall for some asshole!"

"that sounded like a lie but ok. now let's get back to work before slughorn chews us out again like last time."

sirius rolled his eyes and got back to work, but he couldn't stop thinking about how y/n looked with daniel, how she smiled at his words, and how much he absolutely hated it.

to his dismay that's all sirius saw for the next few weeks. everytime sirius went to go talk to y/n, she would be flirting with some random guy. everytime he saw y/n in the hallway some guy would be hanging around her, a little too close for sirius' liking. however after a few weeks of what felt like torture for him, sirius finally decided to do something about it.

the next day when sirius saw y/n in the hallway with another guy, he walked up y/n and slipped his hand into hers.

"hey y/n, how's it going?" sirius smiled.

y/n gaped at sirius for a second due to the random physical contact, before answering. "hi sirius, I'm-"

"oh that's great, mind if we talk for a bit? its kind of important." sirius said, cutting y/n off.

the guy y/n was talking to earlier stared at sirius before interjecting himself into their conversation.

"um dude me and y/n are kind of in the middle of something-"

"I didn't ask, you nitwit!" sirius snapped before dragging y/n off to a more secluded area.

"that wasn't cool! you can't just interrupt my conversation like that." y/n said with an annoyed tone. he can't just weasel his way into her life right when she stsrts trying to move on.

"i can when I need to confess my feelings for you!"

y/n stared in disbelief. sirius' words caught off guard. there's no way, he had feelings for her, y/n must have misheard him.

"i'm sorry, what?!"

"i... i have feelings for you."

all y/n could do was blink. the boy that she has had feelings for, for 3 years, has feelings for her too? she didnt even know how to respond.

"look i know this is completely random but i've had feelings for you for years and seeing you talk to other guys and flirt with them just didn't sit right with me and its fine if you don't feel the same wa-"

"are you kidding me, are you fucking kidding me?" y/n finally spoke. "sirius the only reason i was talking to other guys is because i thought you didn't have feelings for me. i've had feelings for the past 3 years but you were always flirting with other people so i just assumed you didn't feel the same way so I tried to move on."

sirius stood there for a second, before bringing his hands up to his face to hide his embarrassment.

"damn, i completely fucked this up, didn't i?"

y/n smiled before gently grabbing sirius' wrists and pulling his hands from his face. "well not completely, just because I tried to move on doesn't mean that I was successful at doing so."

sirius looked up into y/n's eyes. "so if i were to ask you right now, you would say yes?"

"absolutely, i would."

"then let's go on a date!" sirius said before linking his arm with y/n's and walking off with her by his side.
