So to take a break from my writing hell mind, I went on pinterest (like I do a lot) and went to one of my favourite writing boards. She/he likes to pin amazing prompts and I thought this one would be an interesting one! (original picture to the side)
(ps this is all from the top of my head at 9 o' clock at night!)
Let's see if I can make you fall in love with a character in less than one page! And in the comments, write your own version starting with "She wrapped her body in the old crocheted blankets, and pretended she was anywhere but here. " I want to see what you guys can write!
She wrapped her body in the old crocheted blankets, and pretended she was anywhere but here. The beeping was making her go ballistic. The young twenty-something brushed her blond, almost white, hair out of her face as her husky slowly walked up to her. In her small quarters of her spacecraft, was a dresser. And on the dresser, was a picture of a little girl that looked about five. The husky, named Elmo, laid in her lap while her legs were crissed-crossed. He licked the tears off of her face as she stared and silently apologized to her young daughter, back on Earth.
The rest of her crew died and she was the last one aboard the USS Tantalus. It was a simple mission; repair some minor damage to a space station around Velara, a nearby planet with the first off-planet human colony. But the ship was hit by an undetected asteroid and knocked the ship out of orbit. Now, the Tantalus is crashing towards the planet's surface with only the girl and the dog wrapped in her grandmother's blankets, waiting for death.
She gripped the dog tightly and managed to get out a few words. "Annabelle, oh my sweet Annabelle!" She cried harder as she thought about her only daughter. "I wish I was there for you more! And Mike! Look out for her. We were going to get married! Next week! Save me a seat, would ya?" She managed a smile through her sobs and looked down at Elmo, her dog that she had since she was a child. He seemed to understand as their eyes locked for a second, almost as if he were saying goodbye, before they heard the crashing of metal, stuff in the room flying everywhere, and silence.
Metal littered the ground and the occasional fire littered a large area. Luckily and unluckily, the colony was on the other side of the planet, so no one else got hurt but it will take a while before help comes.
The only movement, other than the fires, was a small grey, white, and red husky sniffing the wreckage, looking for his best friend. Elmo was hurt, but he'll live. His injuries aren't bad and he's able to walk. The girl, still wrapped up in her blankets, is worse. Deep scratches litter her body and two large gashes in her side indicate that, unless help comes in the next few minutes, she will most certainly die. Elmo licks her face and her eyes open. She's laying on her stomach, head to the side and blankets pulled up to her shoulders. The blanket was the dog's doing. He pulled it up to her shoulders when her found her. Something drifts down from the sky.
The picture.
Slightly burnt around the edges but otherwise in good shape, the picture drops next to her face. As she reaches to look at it, Elmo lies down next to her and, picture in hand, she pets him as her life is slowly drained from her. Right before she dies, he licks the tears off her face one final time.
A/N Did you cry during this?
I hope you cried during this.
