After slipping out of algebra class with a week of detention and a promise to 'try harder', I made my way to my locker. I had two more classes and then I could go home. As I walked up to my locker, I saw the word 'geek' written on it in black sharpie. Not that I cared, but it took a few extra minutes out of time I didn't have to clean off my locker. I was scrubbing when Drew and his gang ambushed me.
"Having trouble darling?" Drew said in a whisper that sent chills down my spine.
"I-I'm fine Drew." I wanted out of here, locker clean or not. I couldn't find a weak spot in their formation though.
"Hey, nice locker," Drew said as he picked through my things, tossing items over his shoulder. "Hm, what do we have here? The hunger games, Divergent. Tell me, are these of value to you?"
I had to make this stop. "Please don't touch those," I cried.
"Are you going to answer my question?" Drew demanded.
Silence.
"ANSWER ME." He took my books one by one, ripping out the pages, leaving me to cry in a world of floating papers.
I ran straight out of the school and didn't look back. I didn't care if anyone saw me. I would be dead in minutes anyway. I ran to the town bridge, a good 50 ft above a rocky canal. I flung one of my legs over the bridge gate, and then the other leg. As I was turning around, getting ready to jump I heard a voice.
"Whatcha doing?" I'd never heard the voice before, so I angled my head to take a look of who it was. I could not believe my eyes. It was the boy that was staring at me earlier in class.
"Dakota right?" He smiled, a warm face that made me want forget all my plans of jumping and spend the rest of my life with him.
"Uh yea, that's me. What're you doing here?" I questioned.
"Well, I saw you in the hallway, and you looked upset. So I followed you out here. I'm quite confused by some of your actions you know. Why did you rip up those books?"
My faced flushed with anger. "I didn't rip up those books you imbecile! I was attacked!" I shouted.
He swiveled his head around a couple times then distractedly said, "Yes, well I hated to see those books meet a horrific fate. Those were some of my favorites."
"Yea, mine too." I muttered.
"Anywho, back to the current situation, I am wondering why you are hanging off a bridge. It doesn't seem like the normal thing to do during a nice school day."
This boy was really getting on my nerves now. "You arrogant, selfish, oblivious-" I was just starting my rant when I slipped off the bride. And then, lighting fast, that boy grabbed me and threw me over the side of the bride to safety. I landed on top of him, breathing heavily, as he started to laugh.
"And what is it about this situation that's so funny?" I growled as I rolled off of him.
"Oh stop being so sour. Live in moment. Have a little fun." Yea, well usually having fun doesn't end well for me.
