"Pass me another set" called out Karasuno's orange headed boy. Another perfectly executed spike was hit leaving Hinata's hand burning and tinted the colour red. The burning sensation left a smile on Hinata's face, he loved this feeling.
"You're surprisingly getting better" Kageyama spoke out with a bit of hesitation in his voice as complimenting his friend was something new to his everyday lifestyle. It seemed to have improved Hinata's playing, like there was a new spark of confidence when he was reaching for the ball. And when Hinata had confidence it fueled Kageyama's confidence as well, he felt more assured that he could go and win the Nationals, his only dream in life.
"Wow another compliment from the King?, I really must be getting better" Hinata spoke with a huge grin on his face, turning his attention to Kageyama's proud face, clearly enjoying the words from his best friend.
"Don't get too ahead of yourself dumbass." Even if Hinata always spoke back to Kageyama, he didn't mind much. He might not have shown it in person but in reality he enjoys moments like these where his 'tangerine' tries to stand up to his level. He found it quite amusing infact.
"You guys have been practicing for far too long now, don't you have anything else to do? I have to close up the gym." Daichi announced as he peaked through the corner of the entrance door, clearly already tired and ready to go home for a very well deserved rest.
"Why would you want to do anything else!" Hinata exclaimed, still full of evergy bouncing around the gym hall, "Volleyball is amazing, I could do it all day." He continued, however after looking at Daichi's face, clearly ready to pack up, intimidated Hinata started packing away all the equipment with the help of Kageyama.
Daichi looked around the hall, they still had quite a bit to clean up, impatiently he called out, "just take the keys and put them away where they belong when you're done"
Kageyama walked up and took away the keys, Daichi's mood lit up at the thought of finally going home and with that he decided to leave.
"So.. its just you and me I guess" Hinata started, trying to break the silence, whilst picking up the remaining balls on the floor that were previously spiked.
"And?, You nervous?" Kageyama responded, with a little smirk forming on his face. He liked messing with Hinata and making him nervous when it comes to stupid things like these. As long as they don't effect his performance when playing he took any opertunity to mess with his, dare he say, best friend.
"What! N-No that's not what I ment!" Stuttered Hinata, clearly a bit flustered by that response not expecting Kageyama to take his statement in 'that' way.
"Sure you didn't" he laughed.
Slience empowered the gym as both characters didn't know what to say. It didn't take long for them to start putting everything in its place and before long they were done for today. Both the boys set off to their homes, walking together as they always did. It somewhat became a tradition. They would always wait for each other everyday so they could start their daily walk home together.
Since the first day they met, even if they despised each other at first, they somehow found themselves walking together home. At first there were a few people accompanying them which benefited them as to not make things awkward, but as time went by, the two boys have grown a liking to each other. Wheather they've admit it to each other or not, they knew in their hearts that they were best friends and together they were stronger than ever. In volleyball that is.
The walk to where they seperate wasn't abnormal. They talked about whatever came to mind and argued if they didn't agree on a certain topic, which was quite normal considering they do it all the time.
Kageyama actually enjoyed Hinata's company on his walk home, it's like he gave him comfort. In fact, Hinata was the first ever person to be able to make him feel somewhat happy. No one ever wanted to be his friend as most people found him too intimidating and get irritated by his strong opinions. After all that's how he got his nickname; 'King of the court'.
Hinata was different. Although they still dissagreed on many things, they also found out that they really enjoyed each other's presents even if they weren't talking about anything.
Kageyama really felt like if he wanted to he could spill his feelings to him, no matter what the feelings were, and he was sure Hinata felt the same, at least he hoped.
"I'll see you tomorrow" Hinata said as he mounted his bike. He took one more look at Kageyama's face before seperating ways and to his suprise he was waving back at him with a small smile on his face. It's rare to see him smile, however it was quite plesent. It gave him a splash of colour and emotion.
Hinata liked that. Why? He didn't know, but he knew his smile made him a happier,
"You should smile more." And with that he started pedaling away satisfied with his last snarky comment to Kageyama.
Kageyama completely wiped off his smile as he heard Hinata's words, "Oh shut up you idiot" he shouted, loud enough to make sure that Hinata could definitely hear him.
A quiet laugh was hear from a distance confirming the fact that he did infact hear him, it also made Kageyama return his smile without realizing. That's just the effect Hinata had on Kageyama sometimes, the smallest things that he did made him smile.
He didn't understand how Hinata always made him smile but he also didn't question it either.
Kageyama felt some what a relief that he finally found a friend that he could stand to be around and someone that wasn't spooked by his, as some would say, cold atmosphere.
"See you tomorrow" Kageyama said to himself knowing that Hinata was way too far away to hear him anymore. He turned around and started making his way home.
Tomorrow was going to be another day filled with volleyball.
And Hinata.
