We sent this lovely winner ten questions, and these were their answers. If you think more questions should have been asked, comment your question and we will consider adding it. Thank you very much.
veroxanne won first place in 'The Discovering Elites Award' in the Summer of 2020. This first results ever out for that award and our very first 'First place winner'. veroxanne entered their story 'My Time' in our 'Fan-Fiction' section and took home first place.
Now to the questions!
1. When did you realize you wanted to be a writer?
I think I was in primary five, so I was ten years old then. Reading was my only hobby at that time, that's if you don't consider eating a hobby.
2. When did you write your first book?
Primary three. Oh my gosh! I was eight. It was so horrible, I can't stop my tears from falling. It's so funny thinking about it. I can't forget at the beginning of the book, there's a chapter that introduces the characters. My drawings..Oh my. I drew the characters in that chapter, boy were they hideous.
3. What do you like to do when you are not writing?
Watch Kdramas, animes once ina while cdramas. I read most times (Lately just BTS fanfics). Youtube is like my second home, so I'll be there watching ridiculous BTS videos and laughing my brain cells away.
4. What does your family and friends think of your writing?
My friends probably hate me. I'm joking. I always start a book and they'll be super excited and wait for me to write every time but I don't ever finish them. Which makes them pretty pissed, My family? I don't really know. I haven't ever shown them the stories I write, bcoz...you know can't let my mother see some stuff. They've seen some of my essays and think they're good though.
5. What inspired you to write the winning book?
This shitty quarantine made my mum's interest in exercising, which is a good thing if she didn't add me in it. So one day just like others, my mum forced me to go on a walk with her and hit the store on the way too. She started saying some boring stuff I wasn't interested in. So I muted her and just started imagining things, basically, the book (My Time) was playing like a movie in my head.
6. Where do you get information or ideas for your books?
Where do I get my ideas from? Hmm...weirdly sometimes I'll just be laying down like around 2 am and my mind starts wandering and creating many situations. So I get my ideas from my daydreams. Other times it's something that happened to me, around me or what I did.
7. How many books have you written? What is your favorite?
Uhh...if my memory is good, I've written about six incomplete books. It's so shameful, gosh I'm so lazy. My favorite? I can't remember the name, which is sad. It was about a girl, her mum who's a druggie tried killing both of them by setting their house on fire..her mum died and she survived. So social services got her a new family, they were super-rich and they had a son. He fell in love with her but she liked one of their hot teachers. Hehehe.
8. What has been your favorite comment on your story?
It was 'OH my namjesus you finally updated" I laughed so hard when I saw it. I'm really a lazy person and I'm also sorry for those that read my book. Don't hate me too much, I hate lazy ass too.
9. What do you think makes a great story?
I think....something that could make your readers feel. How do I explain this- A great book is one that can get an emotion out of the readers. Wether is sympathy, excitement, joy, or heartbreak. A reader should never be dull or nonchalant when reading.
10. Who is your favorite character you have written?
It may seem weird but it's Kim Dahnee, Min-A's dad. I like how he knows that Min-A hates Jisoo but is still with her. And also doesn't want to be on his daughter's bad side by not listening to Jisoo's complaints against her. Maybe he seems cowardly by playing the good guy and trying not to hurt both of them. But he is selfish and only does things that make him happy even when it makes his daughter hates him. His happiness is the most important thing to him.
Congratulations on first place veroxanne I can't wait to read something else of yours.
Don't forget to check out their story, and maybe even follow. All votes help, keep writers happy.
