03: $97.99 isn't rational

"Oooo that looks fancy. You should try it on" Paige said seizing a blue dress of the sales rack and shoved me into the dressing room with it.

I took one look at it and all I could think of was how I would ever manage to get it on without destroying the twisted off-shoulder straps

"Dudee! How much longer are you going to take?" Paige whined while banging on dressing room door.

This woman is fricking impatient. I literally just closed the door like 20 seconds ago.

"One minute! This dress is literally impossible to wear" I managed to tighten the straps and tie it in little bow that rested on my lower back. I turned around to look at myself in the mirror, and-

Wow.

I was speechless.

It was fairly rare for me feel beautiful, especially while wearing formal dresses like the one I was wearing right now.

A plain satin/silk dress with a sweetheart neckline and spaghetti straps that crisscrossed on the back. The bodice was fitted and hugged my waist flawlessly while the skirt flared out and hit a couple inches above my knee. The royal navy looked rather flattering against my tan skin and the length of it really accentuated my legs, making them appear longer and slender than they actually were.

I unlocked the door and slowly opened it knowing that Paige was undoubtedly leaning her against it like she always did. As expected, she stumbled inside but caught her balance before her actually hit the floor.

"Paige, how many times have a told you not do that"

"Well Lena, I'm sorry It's not my fault that you.... WOAH" Her words got cut of when she saw me, her eyes going wide with excitement. "Dude do a spin for me" She twirled her finger in the air.

Chuckling, I flared out the edges of my skirt and spun around a few times for her. "So... what do you think?" I was still quite unsure about it. "Like is it too much?"

"Dude are u kidding me?!" she grabbed my arms above the elbows and shook me few times for added emphasize. "You look so good in this dress. If you weren't my best friend, I'd totally be down to date you"

I raised my brow at her.

"Lena, this dress literally screams your names. Which is why it makes sense that I'm the one who chose it for you in first place."

"But Paige it's probably way out of my budget and besides where would I even where it?"

She pretended to think about it for a while, but it was obvious she knew the answer, "Oh I don't know. Maybe the welcome back dance party that the Johnson twins are hosting next weekend?"

"Right," I forgot about that party. We met Riley and Raymond last year and they were known for their wealthy family history. Almost the whole school knew who they were. This year they were throwing a dance at their dad's mansion, inviting a good number of friends and students. Paige and I were honestly surprised when we learned that we made the cut. "I thought we were going to shop for dresses with the others"

"We were but it's like they have so many good dresses here and at a rational price too" she countered "Besides I thought you were all about getting stuff at a cheap price"

"Paige, $97.99 isn't rational" I folded my arms across my chest

"It's technically less than a $100 and any dress less than a 100 is inexpensive if you ask me" She stuck her tongue out at me like the child she was. "Besides I heard Keith is also going to be there, so I guess if don't want to look your best, it's all up to you."

"Paige!" I hissed at her looking around me to make sure no one from campus was with ear shot. "Someone could have heard you"

"Yeah, yeah," She eyed me again. "So, are you getting this dress or not? Because I will buy it for you if don't. Whether you like it or not Lena" She narrowed her eyes at me attempting to look threatening.

She shoved me back into the dressing room and snatched it away from the minute I walked out. I rummaged through my bag to find my debit card as I followed her to the checkout center.

"And your total is $42.75," the lady said carefully folding the dress and putting it in a bag.

My eyes literally popped out, "I'm sorry what? The tag said it was almost $100!"

The cashier was clearly uninterested though. "It an end of the season sale. Your dress is 60% off plus tax," she said pointing to the two employees behind us moving a rack of dresses towards the clearance section. "I guess they just didn't change the togs on this one yet so unless you want to pay $100.02 your total is $42.75"

Paige elbowed my in the ribs. "See this is meant to be. Not only is this dress under $100 but now its under $50 too. So quit stalling and pay for it already."

And that is how I ended up buying this dress.

I'm actually kind of glad that I'm bought it though. It's not every day that a girl gets to feel beautiful like a princess.

But if only my life were a fairy tale.

"Yeah and Keith can be your Prince Charming" Paige giggled while spinning her car into the parking lot as she made sure not to hit anything.

"What?" I hadn't realized I said that out loud.

"Lena. You and I both know you dream about Keith Hunter Reyes being your Prince Charming that one day sweeps you off your feet and-"

"Paige!" I was too stunned to say anything.

But the girl just started laughing and I couldn't help but laugh with her.

Paige is my best friend. And I hope she always will be as well. We've been through so much these past years and finding her was honestly the best thing that has happened to me in all of high school.

I love her so much. She was like my other half. The one person in this entire world that I could count on and trust no matter what.
