(A/N: Happy New Years! I'm trying to write and update more frequently. Enjoy!)
I awake to the sound of my mom yelling at me to go to school. I groan, but then realize that I go to Dan's house today, making me snap awake. I do my usual morning routine and throw on a pair of slightly ripped jeans, a gray sweater, a blue and purple Aztec patterned scarf, and some navy blue flats. I pull my hair up into a messy bun and put on light makeup, not bothering too much with my appearance. I grab my phone and text Dan that I am on my way and for his to text me his address.
I head downstairs and grab my backpack for "school". I quickly grab my car keys and open the door.
"You're leaving way earlier than usual." My mothers voice startles me as I turn around. I bite then inside of my cheek and try to come up with some excuse.
"I'm gonna stop by Starbucks and get some coffee before school." I say as casually as I can, hoping she will buy it. She just mutters an "okay" and I sigh in relief, walking to my car.
As I start my car up, I put in Dan's address into my GPS and start driving. His house is only about 15 minutes from mine so it wasn't that bad. I park in his driveway behind his car and get out, walking to the front door. I ring the doorbell and wait for him to answer. In a few seconds I am greeted by a smiling Dan.
"Hello, Rachel." He grins down at me and steps aside, beckoning me to come in. I gradually walk into his house and he shuts the door behind us.
"My mom was a little suspicious of my leaving earlier." I chuckle having a seat on my couch.
"What if she finds out?" Dan worriedly asks as sits next to me, his face full of concern. I roll my eyes at him.
"How is she going to find out?" I ask crossing my arms.
"I don't know, maybe the school calling her saying that her child has been absent for three days without a call in sick?" Dan scoffs sarcastically and I freeze. I never thought of that. I'm gonna be in so much trouble...unless...
"I have an idea." I blurt out as Dan looks at me in amusement.
"Alrighty then, what's your plan?" He asks smirking at me.
"You can call the school pretending to be my father saying that I will be home sick for the next 3 days." I suggest, confident in my plan. Dan laughs suddenly and I glare up at him.
"You don't have a father. Also, don't they think it would be weird that your father is British?" He says.
"They don't know that I don't have a father." I say "And you will just have to do your best American accent." Dan sighs and finally gives in to the idea, but still calls it dumb.
We look up the phone number to the school and then we call them.
"Hello, I would like to discuss the absences of my daughter Rachel Ali." Dan says in a deep voice into the phone. I nearly burst out laughing at his attempt at an American accent. There is a pause and then he says
"Yes, I am her father."
Another pause.
"She is sick with the...flu. I am very worried about her and I would like her to stay home for at least um three days. Yeah, it's pretty bad." Dan explains trying to come up with lies. There is another short pause and then Dan smiles. "Thank you." and he hangs up the phone and I giggle.
"Nice accent." I laugh sarcastically.
"Hey, I was trying okay?" He glares at me.
"Yeah I know...thank you." I smile at him in all seriousness. He smirks and shakes his head.
