*Flashback*
It was only supposed to be a simple recon mission. In and out. No one expected this to happen. He had already endured so much loss, so much pain.
No matter how much he ran away from it, in the end it finds him.
*drip*
"That mission wasn't so difficult was it? Kakashi?" Natsuki lands next to her comrade on the branch of a tree. Their position hidden.
Bumping his shoulder he glances her way. The young girls vibrant golden eyes look back into his. Natsuki tilts her head, noticing the serious look plastered to his face.
"Common on, smile! We finished the mission and all that's next is to go home. Oooo! Maybe we can get some ramen if there's time!"
Kakashi listened to her ramble on. Something he found surprisingly calming to him. What would be annoying to most was what he loved about Natsuki. That shy and timid girl with a fiery core he met during that first day at the academy.
After everything....she still finds the will to smile, and be happy.
Looking back at Natsuki he notices that she has stopped talking. Her eyes set sternly on the fading trees ahead of them. Kakashi narrows his own in the same position, scanning for what wasn't right.
His eyes widen when he sees movement in the trees "Move!" He shouts, both of them diving to avoid the oncoming kunai.
Natsuki was quick to land in an open area, knowing the warmth at her back was Kakashi's own. Their teamwork becoming one single component. Her gold orbs bound from one shadow hitting the trees to the next.
"Kakashi, what the hell is going on?" She mumbles to her partner.
He takes his time responding, measuring up their opponents with quick eyes, "I don't know but we have to be careful."
The enemy send shuriken and kunai both flying towards the pair. Their best option to get them alone. Natsuki jumps to her right sending her own kunai flying. Movement to the corner of her eye has her hands signing immediately.
"Shadow clone jutsu!" She calls, an equal double appearing to her left.
The clone was quick to grab Natsuki's ankle, tossing her towards the rouge ninja. In mid flip Saisha manages to land a sharp kick to his face. Landing lightly on her feet she makes quick work to look for Kakashi. Seeing him about ten feet away fighting on his own.
She knew he could handle it as they estimated it to be about ten rouge ninja all together, minus the three she just took out.
A drop hits her cheek, and soon it was a massive downpour. The rain was loud as it thumps against the ground. Thundering rolling in the distance. There was a streak of lightening, then a ruffle of the leaves.
Natsuki notices a small glint in the barrage of greenery just above where Kakashi was.
No...
Her feet move even before she has a chance to register anything else. Kakashi noticing the glare of light as well. A force slams itself against his side. Too fast for him to coordinate. Mud coats his clothes and hands as he stumbles to the ground. A thump and then a cough.
*drip*
Kakashi holds his head and looks to where Natsuki could be. His breath catching in his throat. Sudden nausea rolls in his gut at the sight.
