"This life is what you make it." I heard a voice say. I lifted my head and saw one of the most iconic figures of all time, Marilyn Monroe. It was her second time visiting me this month because it was my second, serious mental breakdown. I put down my pen and she started talking again. "No matter what, you're going to mess up sometimes, it's a universal truth." It is, but why can't I convince myself that. Why do I always think that I am a failure and that everyone is always succeeding except for me?
"But the good part is you get to decide how you're going to mess it up." she walked towards me and sat on the chair beside me. Girls will be your friends- they'll act like it anyway." I chuckled lightly, remembering the toxic friend I once had. It made me kind of smile thinking that I have let go of that toxicity I once had. "But just remember; some come, some go."
"The ones that stay with you through everything- they're your true best friends" I smiled at her. I suddenly thought of my friends, the ones that really went through everything with me. Sometimes I feel like I love them more than I love myself. "Don't let go of them."
"I won't." I said and looked down at my desk.
"Also remember, sisters make the best friends in the world." Sure is, even though I'm across the country from her. That little sister of mine that I think, at some times, is a spawn from hell, but, I love her anyways. "As for lovers, well, they come and go., too. And babe, I hate to say it, most of them, actually pretty much all of them are going to break your heart." she said and rubbed a soothing hand on my back.
"But you can't give up because if you give up, you'll never find your soulmate. " My soulmate. A person who will love me truly and care for me endlessly. Just the thought of having that person warms me. "You'll never find that half who makes you whole and that goes for everything if you give up." she continued.
"Just because you fail once doesn't mean you're gonna fail at everything." Those words. Those words always give me hope. Failing is a vital part of reaching success. You can either succumb to your doubts and thoughts of never succeeding or you do learn, you learn from your mistakes and use them to build yourself until you reach success. "Keep trying, hold on, and always, always, always, believe in yourself, because if you don't, then who will, sweetie?" she said in a soft voice.
That made the tears came flooding down. I couldn't keep them in anymore and hugged Marilyn. I am so thankful that her ghost can be touched. I felt her embrace as she comforted me.
"So keep your head high." she position my head up high, "keep your chin up," she tilted my chin, "and most importantly, keep smiling, because life's a beautiful thing and there's so much to smile about." I smiled at her as I wiped my tears. I can already feel her fading. She stood up and I followed suit. I hugged her one last time.
"Thank you." I muttered.
"It's okay. Just remember what I said, okay? You are a strong person, know that, sweetie. You'll get through this." she said and fixed my hair.
"Goodbye." I said softly and she soon faded away. I always adhere her words. I cherish them and use them to get through the rough, and normal, times in life. I am grateful that I have the opportunity to hear those from such a person.
I went to my bed and drifted of to a peaceful sleep.
