Human girls suck...A lot

Nathaniel

Of all the places Gaia could have sent me, she chose to send me to the human world. Plus I have to remain in a mortal body, that way my powers will be less noticeable. Again, I'm guessing the kind of body I'm in is pretty hot according to human standards, because I have girls gawking at me everywhere I go. When I asked for a change of body, the goddess laughed her heart out (if she has one that is) and told me I was stuck with this one. So I took out my frustration on research regarding everything there is to know about the human world, which wasn't hard considering my powers help me absorb knowledge super fast.

So I've practically been in a bad mood and tonight I had to come to this stupid party because Joan told me it's where I'd find the girl. Oh, Joan is my flatmate, and the only immortal I know in this godforsaken place. She's a siren. I groan internally as another girl approaches, this one brunette with a really skimpy skirt and high heels.

"Hey, wanna dance?" She asks in what I think is supposed to be a flirting tone. I ignore her and focus my attention on the wall to my left. After some seconds of silence, she stand directly in my line of vision and I sigh. I can feel her eyes boring into my head, and decide that she's not going to leave until she gets an answer. So I take a deep breath and give her one

"Look, I'm gonna say this once so listen carefully to me. No, I don't want to dance with you, or any of your friends. So go away and tell them to stop bothering me. I'm not interested" I stand up and look into her eyes, not surprised to see that the heels bring her to an exact head level with me. Disbelief crawls into them and I fight off a smirk. Someone's definitely not used to being refused anything. She curses under her breath and walks away.

I walk into the opposite direction, to what I hope is the kitchen. I've started feeling hungry and I know I should be leaving any time now. Much as I'd love to go home and boast victoriously to Joan, a part of me is curious as to how the girl looks like. I mean, yes I saw her during that time when Gaia took her form, but I want to see her, without having to think that the earth mother is the one present inside her.

I see a door to my left, and I push the door slowly, praying above everything else that I won't have to interrupt some couple in the midst of their lovemaking session. Luckily enough, it's the kitchen, and even luckier, it's stuffed fully. I pick up a protein bar and sit on one of the chairs next to the sink.

I'm only finishing my second bar, when a girl walks in. My first thoughts are to groan out loud and walk away in case she decides to come talk to me again. But funnily enough, her only concentration is the glasses of champagne lining up the tables. She picks up a tray and is about to walk out when she notices me for the first time. One look at her face, and I mentally Pat myself for responding to my hunger pang. This is Cleo, the girl's friend. She comes closer and puts the tray right in front of me

"Want a glass"

"No, not really. I don't drink"

Surprise "oh okay, didn't know there existed such people anymore"

I grin at her surprise "there's me"

"Whats your name anyway. I don't seem to recall seeing you before" Curiosity has now replaced her shock, and it's very easy to see how she became Cassandra's friend.

"Nathaniel, and yes, I'm new here that's why you don't remember me"

"Oh, figures. Cleopatra, but everyone just calls me Cleo. You should head back to the party, meet some new people. Most of them are cool, well except the usual jerks"

I smile at her and shake my head "actually, I have a place I need to be within the hour so I can't do that. But maybe we should catch up sometimes, like hang out or something?"

"Uum..yeah sure," She replies and I can almost see the numbers turning in her head as she tries to figure out if I just offered to spend time with her. But much as I hate to use her, I know it's vital that I at least get close to someone who is close to Cassandra. That way, I'll be able to keep an eye on her, while getting inside information on her life as I try to figure out why Gaia sent me to her.

"It was nice meeting you Cleo" I say as I stand up and move towards the door, she nods her head at me and I move out. At least the evening went as planned, well most of it did. I still haven't seen the primary target and my time here has already ran out. The rest of the house is still in full Blair as people dance and make out on the floor. I notice the girl from before throwing a glare my way before I finally manage to get outside.

I walk briskly towards my Lamborghini (yes, being human has its perks) and just as I reach to search for my keys in my jeans pocket, I suddenly remember where I left them: the kitchen table, where I picked up the first protein bar. I kick at the ground in frustration and I imagine just for a moment, what would happen if I just used my powers to bring the keys out here. It would probably take a quarter of a second, but even then, I had been warned by Joan about using my powers. It would attract other magical beings around, and I certainly didn't want that attention, at least not now.

I Huff angrily as I walk towards the back of the house hoping to get them back without any more uncomfortable stares from the girls. I knew it would take more than a month to get used to all of this, but no, the earth mother just had to refuse the only thing I ever asked from her.I reach the back door and find it open, with some guys arguing inside, probably about girls. I ask one of them the way to the kitchen from this side of the house, and he points it out. I keep my strides short and brisk, and millennia later, I reach the kitchen door and turn the knob. Seeing as I used my last ounce of luck already, I find a crowd of girls huddled together in a corner talking about god knows what. I grab my keys from the table, and walk out before any of them can notice me.

When I reach my car, I'm not surprised to find another car parked next to it. Well, it was the last parking spot left behind. But something about the scent I can pick up from the car, spells Cassandra. I sigh as I get inside and start my car. Meeting her will have to take place some other day.
