Part 2 of the Entrance Exam Mishap
Summary: And because Shinsou is stupid, he lets go. Shigaraki blinks and then scowls, "You bastard-"
"It's time we take our leave Shigaraki." And Shinsou thinks, 'Yes please listen to mist man and don't kill us.'
Shigaraki's scowl only deepens though. "You brats aren't worth my time. Nomu! Get the purple one."
And oh, the Nomu charges forward, but Midoriya's brain has perhaps caught up with the situation, because when the Nomu reaches for Shinsou, Midoriya levels a punch at the Nomu's stomach.
Nothing happens.
-
For some reason, in a moment where his life may as well be on the line, Shinsou's mind takes him back to the time just after the entrance exam.
Those days were tense and filled with anxiety. With the way his entrance exam had gone, Shinsou was pretty goddamn sure he wasn't making it to the Hero Course. He wallowed in self pity the first few days, despite the fact that his new friend was certain that U.A wouldn't let his little stunt at the end (that Midoriya would swear up and down was 'heroic') go unseen.
'Heroic'. Yeah right. Sure, he had ended up saving that girl, but let's be honest, that was more Midoriya than it was Shinsou. Shinsou may have been the one pulling the strings when Midoriya leaped up to punch the 0-pointer, but with that he'd also gotten Midoriya hurt, no matter how much Midoriya protested that it wasn't his fault.
And while he still begrudgingly saw the validity in Midoriya's point, he just didn't think that the U.A examiners were going to commend him for his 'heroic' act. The best he could hope for was that they wouldn't straight out reject his application.
But other than that, if all of that didn't mess up his chances, then he was pretty confident he'd at least end up in Gen Ed. And then? Then it was only a matter of time. He'd prove himself in the Sports Festival, and no matter what anyone said, he would get into the Hero Course, no if's or but's.
Yet despite having kept a semblance of calm throughout the day, here he was desperately clutching at his letter from U.A and feeling for all the world like he was going to loose his lunch any second now. Vaguely he wondered if Midoriya was opening his own letter at this very moment and smiled bitterly at the thought that he probably wouldn't get to see much of his friend either way once school started. At least if they both ended up going to U.A, maybe Midoriya wouldn't mind spending some of his lunches with Shinsou? Shinsou had no doubt that Midoriya's heroic's classmates would be much more interesting than little old him, but Shinsou was selfish when it came to people he liked. He knew himself well enough to know that he would hold onto Midoriya a little longer before he had to let him go.
Shinsou forced his attention back to the letter and opened it with shaking hands. Looking inside, he was surprised to find that along with the given letter came a small metal disk.
Was this.... a hologram projector?
He put the disk on the desk in front of him and a moment later found out that he was right, it was a hologram projector because all at once it turned on and he was two centimetres away from All Might's grinning face.
"Hello there young student! It is I, All Might, on a screen!"
"What the fuck- " Shinsou almost tipped backwards with his chair trying to put some distance between the hologram screen and himself. Hologram-All Might payed no attention to his plight and continued on as brightly as ever.
