He drove Cooper's car with the utmost care. Stopping fully at every single stop sign, not disobeying any of the road rules.
"You okay?" He squeezed my hand tighter.
"I'm perfectly fine. Just curious where we're going for dinner!" He chuckled, releasing my hand and turning the wheel a little quicker than he actually has been.
"Off to some town nearby. It's a quiet place; somewhere we can talk and get to know each other even better" He smiled, finishing the turn on a street that looks like it'd come straight out of the Hannah Montana movie.
As we pulled into the gravel parking lot, I realized I didn't even do anything with my hair and that it was in just a loose ponytail.
"Hey, you can go on in. I have to do something with my lion's mane, I'll be in there in like ten minutes max!" I pulled my hair out, Zach walked in the restaurant that looked like it was straight out of a "Home and Company" magazine.
I pulled my hair up into a high bun that looked between decent and not with the chunky infinity scarf I stole out of Renee's closet. Okay, I don't even have mascara on. I don't even have mascara with me. Where's my purse?! Great.
I walked into the place and realized there were only five tables, all of which were empty but one. Zach sat at a table with a candle lit and two plates of salad.
"Here, let me take your coat" the waiter immediately stated. I handed it over.
"Please, take a seat," Zach pulled my chair out, pushing it in as soon as I was situated, "I hope this isn't too much for you, I really asked Renee what you like and she said seclusion and isolation so I figured this was okay" I smiled to assure him this was okay.
I began poking at my salad, taking bites of small pieces of lettuce.
"Do you not like salads?" He questioned, obviously noticing I was taking the smallest bites.
"No, I do! It's just I want to save my appetite for whatever you have planned next!" I smiled. I really don't like salads; they're repulsive.
As the meal came to a close and I realized I had devoured my entire steak and cheesy potatoes, leaving no room for dessert. I wouldn't deny it if he offered, though.
During the meal, we discussed our goals in life. I know now that he wants to be a pediatrician when he is older, he wishes to attend Boston University after senior year, that he is currently a junior, and he has three sisters, all younger. He has only been in two relationships, all which ended because they were afraid of the relationship being more than a high school relationship. When he discussed previous relationships, he looked a little pale.
I had told him how I wasn't set on what I wanted to be when I was older, but that I wished to attend New York University or University of California, Berkeley. I also shared my previous experiences with relationships; stating how I had only been in one and that it ended because he was trying to say I couldn't hangout with Renee, Lauren, and Nathan. I told him that all I'm looking for right now is someone who wants to be together but not all the time, someone who will give me space when I want space.
"Would you like to go back to town and get some ice cream at the Blizzard Castle?" He opened the passenger door, smiling. I nodded. Gosh I was going to regret eating this food later.
The car ride back to town was awfully quiet, I actually started to doze off into slumber. I tended to do that, a lot.
"Marie, we're here" He opened the passenger door for me. I stood up, and I gripped his hand.
"Can I get a medium mint Oreo blizzard?" He gestured for me to order my own dessert.
"Can I get a small peanut butter cup pie blizzard, extra peanut butter cups?" He paid again, and he grabbed our number and we sat at a booth, across from each other.
"Thank you for joining me today, Marie. I know it was really last minute for you, but I wanted to surprise you. I'm really into you, and I felt like I should do something nice for you to show you that. Call me crazy but I think we could be a couple if these dates continue" he began eating his blizzard.
"I really enjoyed this. It was tons of fun. I really like this, this date thing we're on. You're really super sweet, and I can totally see why you have been in numerous relationships. You are so adorable and it's another thing I like about you. I do agree, I feel that with these dates, we'll be the ideal long distance couple!" I began digging into my blizzard, moaning at the sweet goodness.
"Ideal long distance couple?" He inquired. I nodded. He smiled.
We finished up our blizzards and it was slowly approaching 10.
"Do you want me to drive you to Renee's house first and then to your house?"
"Yeah, that'd be great. I need to get a few things from her house seeing I have spent the last like three days with her" he drove off.
The drive to Renee's was short, three minutes max. He sat in the car while I ran in to grab my things.
"Okay, I'm good!" I sat back in the passenger seat. He drove off to my house, having me recite directions.
As he pulled into my driveway, he put the car in park. He walked around and opened my door, and grabbed my bags.
"After you, m'lady!" And he held my hand as I stood up.
"Thank you so much Zach. This was the greatest first date a girl could ask for. I really enjoyed every moment of it and the effort you put into it was enormous, something nobody's ever done for me" I held his hand a little tighter as we stood on my front porch.
"Of course. I'm glad you enjoyed yourself. I would love to stay a little while longer, but it's almost curfew for you, and I think it's only right to leave you be after that fantastic of a date" he began to walk away, but I pulled his hand.
"You can't leave without this!" I planted a passionate kiss on his lips. "Thank you again, you're pretty close to perfect" I smiled and kissed his cheek.
I stood on my steps and watched him walk away, smiling and walking with a little "pep in his step". He pulled out of my driveway and my heart was still going pitter patter.
That was the most perfect, original date I could have asked for.
