Chapter 1

3rd Person POV

In the castle, the women were working until one woman entered "it's girls"! It's girls! It's girls!" The women began to rejoice, ran out of the room where they left their jobs. Then the maids began to rejoice as well but what they didn't notice was the black raven at the window listening to the gossip amongst the women.

By the water in the Moors there stood Maleficent awaiting to hear back from Diaval. Suddenly the raven approached her, she turned him into a man once Diaval landed right in front of her and almost fell. "Well?" she asked him "well I saw nothing. But there's been a..." "what?" she asked him impatiently. Diaval hesitated to answer her question but he proceeded to answer her "Children. King Stefan and the Queen have had children".

Maleficent seemed disgusted "oh" then Diaval continued "there well be a christening, they say it's to be a grand celebration" he finished speaking of the information he had heard while at the castle. "A grand celebration for babies, how wonderful" she spoke with an evil gaze in her eyes.

All manner of folk came to the christening. Even a trio of fairies who foster peace and goodwill.

King Stefan and the Queen sat on their thrones in front of the crowd "look there's the babies!" the blue fairy exclaimed so did the green one "I love babies!" "can you just concentrate, please? I'm not telling you again" the red fairy said as the three of them flew in front of the King and Queen, Stefan raised his hand as a sign of the fairies to stop. So, they did "greetings, your Majesty I am Knotgrass of the Moorland Fair Folk" she said "I'm Flittle, your kingship" "and I'm Thistlewit, your royalnesses".

The Queen looked at her husband and said "they bring gifts for our daughters" the King looked at her then one of the fairies; Flittle spoked up "these are not any old gifts, for you see we're magic! "and very good with children" Knotgrass added. The Queen nodded her head at her husband, he sighed as let them proceed to the twin girls and Knotgrass began her wish to them "sweet Aurora and Laila, I wish for you two the gift of beauty" she used her magic to create red rise petals, the next one was Flittle "my wish is that you two will never be blue, only happy all the days of your life's" she used her magic to create blue butterflies. One landed on Aurora's nose and one on Laila's arm, Aurora sneezed causing the butterflies to disappear, the last one to bestow a wish on the princesses was Thistlewit "sweet babies, my wish for you is that both of you find..." but she was cut off by the wind burning out all of the candles and everything started shaking.

Maleficent entered and walked up to the King and Queen, the fairies panicked and flew up to the side of the princesses' crib. Maleficent turned to the King "well, well, what a glittering assemblage, King Stefan" Diaval landed on her staff and she began to pamper his feathers and looked to the crowd "royalty, nobility the gentry, and..." then she turned her head to face the King and Queen " how quaint, even the rabble. I must say, I really felt quite distressed at not receiving and invitation" "you're not welcome here" Stefan told her. Maleficent pretended to be offended and then laughed "oh, dear what an awkward situation" she said, "you're not offended?" the Queen asked her "why, no. And to show I bear no ill will; I too shall bestow a gift on the children".

The King stood up "no! We don't want your gift!" he shouted, Maleficent approached the children "stay away from the princesses! Yes, Stay away!" the Fairies tried to stop her but Maleficent used her magic and flicked the trio into a crate "listen well, all of you! The princesses shall indeed grow in grace and beauty, beloved by all who meet them" The King and Queen were standing, and the Queen spoke "that's a lovely gift" then the king "don't do this". Maleficent put her finger to her lips to keep him quiet, she turned a saw a spinning wheel and the raven looked in her direction.

"But... Before the sun sets on their 16th birthday, they will prick their finger on the spindle of a spinning wheel and fall into a sleep like death, a sleep from which they will never awaken" she ended the curse. "Maleficent, please don't do this. I'm begging you" the King begged "I like you begging, do it again" she said, the King looked her straight in the eyes and kneeled on both of his knees "I beg you" Maleficent looked at him "all right, the princesses can only be woken from their death like sleep, but only by true love's kiss" she turned to the crowd "this curse will last till end of time! But no power on Earth can change it" she had a wicked laugh and exited out of the castle with Diaval.

King Stefan ordered his men to seize every spinning wheel in the kingdom. The wheels were broken and burned, that they might never be used, and thrown into the deepest dungeon in the castle. Secretly, he entrusted the safety of the children to the magic of the pixies, who would take them to a remote hideaway for 16 years and a day.

Stefan shut himself behind walls of his castle while his soldiers rode far and wide to hunt Maleficent down. But she made walls of her own, that the Moors might never again suffer the touch of any human. And she revealed in the sorrow that her curse had brought. 

The fairies began their charge to raise Aurora and Rose in a snug little cottage in the woods.

"No! Is this it? Looks dreadful" Flittle commented unimpressed and disgusted "come on" Knotgrass ordered, they carried Aurora first then Laila "oh, we need a smaller..." one of them said while almost dropping Laila "or bigger bodies" the continued after they placed Laila beside her sister. "No, what we need is a proper disguise" "what do you mean?" one of them asked.

"Well, we have the blend in, don't we? We have to be big enough to look after these babies. So, gather around ladies, get ready. One, two, three grow!" the three fairies grew into normal sized women. "Oh, that's very nice now, there will be no questions asked. We are no longer fairies, we are three peasant women raising our orphan children in the woods" Knotgrass said and Thistlewit and Flittle agreed, "so, uh, no more flying" "no flying?" Thistlewit asked "no, no, and no magic" "no magic" she asked again.

"Yes, you heard" "it's in the middle of nowhere" Flittle spoke about the house "at least no one will find us here" Thistlewit tries to make Flittle feel better, the three fairies entered the house leaving a crying Aurora and a quiet Laila outside. The suddenly a crow placed a crow landed on Rose's basket, he looked down at her and she looked up at him with curiosity then the door opened again and the raven took off "there you two are, why are you always hiding? Come on there you go" Thistlewit spoke picking up both of the girl's baskets and talking them both inside.

This is going to be a long 16 years and a day.
