Alex pov

"Hey, wait up!" John shouts, running to catch up to me. "I wanted to introduce you to some of my friends."
He guides me over to a table with five people; there's a boy with the poofiest ponytail I've ever seen, wearing a blue shirt with the word "bonjour" on it, sitting next to a dark-skinned boy wearing a bandanna. On the other side of the table are three girls, a tall girl with curly hair and a pink shirt, a slightly shorter girl, with long, dark, straight hair, wearing a light blue shirt, and a tiny girl with shoulder-length curls and a yellow shirt.
"Everyone, this is Alex, he's new here," John says, sitting down next to the bandanna boy.
"Hello, I'm Marie-Joseph Paul Yves Roch Gilbert du Motier, Marquis de Lafayette, but call me Lafayette," the tall boy with the ponytail says in a thick French accent.
"I'm Hercules Mulligan," the boy with the bandanna says, smiling.
"I'm Angelica,", "Eliza,", "And Peggy!" The three girls say.
"Um, hi," I say, sitting down next to John.
I study the people at the table. The middle girl, Eliza, is kinda cute, I think. I mean, I was never really in any kind of relationship back on Nevis, there weren't even many girls my age. Well, there weren't many guys either. I would totally date a dude, but I've always thought of myself with a girl someday. Although, John is pretty c-
"How about you, Alex?" The small girl, Peggy, asks, interrupting my thoughts.
"I- um, w-what were you talking about?" I ask, stuttering slightly.
"The biography assignment, for Mr. Washington's class. Who are you gonna do it on?" John says.
"Um, I was thinking of doing it on Lin-Manuel Miranda, the first secretary of the treasury," I say nervously.
"Cool, I'm gonna do mine on Anthony Ramos, they were friends!" John says, grinning.
I smile back, happy to have friends already.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~time skip cuz my friend is gonna stab me in the knees if I don't publish more soon~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
~BRRRRING~
The bell rings as the final class of the day ends. I grab my bag and rush out of the classroom. John runs up and grabs my shoulder.
"See you tomorrow, Alex!" He says, slipping a piece of paper into my hand, "This is my phone number, so you can text me later."
I smile as he runs away down the hall.
The smile falls off my face as soon as I realize where I have to go now. Home. With my dad. He's been absolute hell lately. Ever since my social worker found my dad and had me move in with him, I've wanted nothing more than to move somewhere else.
I'd better hurry, he'll yell at me again if I'm late getting home, I think, turning the corner.
I bump into something solid, and fall down. I look up to see a boy that looks like John's friend, Lafayette. But this boy doesn't have a ponytail, and he's wearing a magenta shirt, rather than the blue that Lafayette wore.
"Oh, um, s-sorry," I stutter, looking at the boy.
"Watch where you're fucking going, dumbass," the boy says, stepping on one of my books as he walks away.
I gather my things quickly and rush off again, hoping to make it home before my dad.
I scramble with the key as I unlock the door.
"DAMMIT, YOU WORTHLESS BOY!" My dad screams as I come in the door.
My father walks over, grabs my arm and drags me to the kitchen.
"WHAT THE FUCK IS THAT?" He yells, pointing at the small pile of dishes in the sink.
"I-I'm s-sorry I f-forgot," I say quietly, shaking slightly.
My dad smacks me across the face, and I start to cry.
"STOP CRYING YOU WORTHLESS PIECE OF SHIT, YOU'RE JUST LIKE YOUR MOTHER!" He shouts in my face, making me cry more.
"Stop stop stop stop stop," I whisper, hoping he'll let go of me.
He slaps me again, harder this time, and throws me down to ground.
"FIX IT!" My father yells and leaves the room.
I immediately get off the floor and get to work.
Wow, some angst, fun. I legit kinda hated myself while writing this chapter, but I'll live. I hate Alex's dad, but it is kinda my fault, I wrote the book. Ash, I wrote this for you,  don't stab my knees please.
