chapter 2

dimitri's p.o.v

Morning came quickly.

He pulled the covers off of himself and quickly dressed.

He was home at last. Home with the two most beautiful girls in the entire world.

He smiled at the thought of being able to read by the fireplace at the end of the day, with Anya in the kitchen and Aria with the guitar.

The guitar was his, but he taught Anya and Aria how to play before he was drafted.

He found it funny that the guitar fit him perfectly, but it covered most of Aria's frame.

Anya was the Princess, so every day they would head to the Palace for updates on the Kingdom. The Dowager - Known as the Queen - would do the rest.

He pulled on a suit and tie, brushed his hair neatly, and pulled on some shiny shoes.

He cuffed his sleeves, revealing his larger hands.

He then walked downstairs to sip a cup of coffee, and wait for Aria and Anya.

Anya came downstairs in a beautiful red ball gown that complimented her upper body features beautifully.

He smiled and tried his best not to blush. He did indeed have a crush on her, ever since the day they met in Saint Petersburg.

Anya was petite, she stood only at about five-foot-two, whereas he greatly exceeded six foot. He smiled down at Anya, who's high-heeled shoes didn't do her too well compared to his towering height.

"Shortie." he smirked.

"It's not funny!" Anya whined.

He let out a deep chuckle, making Anya's cheeks go rosy.

Aria came downstairs with a blue ball gown. It wasn't as elegant as Anya's, but it also looked beautiful on her. Aria's sense of style was more simple - she didn't need anything too extra.

He liked to believe that she got that from him.

He bent down and kissed Aria's head.

Anya whined for attention. He loved it when he could make Anya jealous - it was like a little game - but then he'd scoop her up and give her all the hugs and kisses.

He chuckled and kissed her head, and Anya blushed.

They arrived to the castle, and were immediately bombarded by one of the butlers.

"Your Highnesses-!"

"Yes-?" he looked down at the butler who was clearly disturbed.

"The Dowager- she's not doing well.."

Without another word, Anya led them all inside, and straight to the Dowager's bedchamber.

The three of them walked inside, and the Dowager called for Anya.

"Anastasia.."

"Nana-!"

"Anastasia, It's my time to go home.."

"No... Nana-.."

"Anastasia, please sing with me.."

He held Aria close. He could feel her tense and knew she didn't want to see the Dowager pass away.

Anya sang the lullaby, "Once Upon a December" with her grandmother, and with the word "December," the Dowager drifted off into an endless sleep.

Anya screamed, devastated by her grandmother's death.

Aria tensed, pressing her head into the top of his diaphragm where she could reach without getting on her tip-toes.

He held her tighter, trying to shield her from this death, and he closed his eyes himself. It broke his heart to see Anya crying, but she needed space.

The three of them stood in that room for the rest of the day, mourning the death of the Queen, and pondering on what would happen next.
