"OMG!" She shouted. Missed calls from her mom, grandma, and a missed text from Dexter. The subways arrived, and she went in.
She was freaking out, and didn't realize she left her phone on the bench. She was about to grab it when the doors closed. The train moved and she fell over. She sat up on the bench and waited for the train to stop. She rushed up the stairs and out. It was dark, and no one was out. It was chilly and the only light illuminated was the streetlights.
She looked around at the streets. It was creepy. But she knew she'd be safer going to her grandma's house than staying at the station. She looked ahead looking at the dark town. A long road stretched to her left and right and a closed store lined up ahead of her on the other side of the road. She looked to the right and left and ran across the street.
She knew her way to her Grandma's house. Go left for a bit, and a turn at the clothes shop. Straight ahead and then turn left at that stop light, and walk straight for 20 minutes to get to her 'Tree Town'.
"Psst. Kid" A man whispered. Scarlet screamed and turned. Behind her was a man in a dark hat and long black coat. His hat was tipped down so far that a shadow hid his eyes. Scarlet gulped.
"Y-Y-Yes..?" She stammered. The man walked forward and Scarlet stepped back. She wanted out...Now.
"Where are you headed? I know shortcuts..."
"I'm sorry... But I don't talk to strangers." The man put out his hand so fast and grabbed her arm. It was so fast she only reacted after he grabbed her hand. "Let go!" She shouted and tried to move his hand from her arm. He tightened his hand even more. Her fingers started to tingle and her arm was in pain and turning red.
He leaned in. "Is that cookie I smell???" He leaned in and sniffed her hair. "The baker..." She closed her eyes. "Let me be a detective, okay?" He whispered. "Hmm. Visiting someone? Someone.... Sick? Maybe a family or friend?" He laughed.
Scarlet opened her eyes. Her eyes were full of tears. "Le-let go... please." She quietly said. He released her arm, and shoved her down. She landed with a thud. She got up and ran as fast as she could.
"LITTLE KID!" Scarlet couldn't do anything but run and scream. Who cares if people woke up. She wanted help. She looked behind her and the man was gone. She was gasping for air. She turned and sure enough the guy was behind her. "Now, Scarlet. Please. I don't want to hurt you. Come with me."
"How do you-" Wait. "Dexter?" She shouted at him. "No response. No movement. "D-D-Dexter?" She reached for the hat and hit it revealing... "GRANDMA?" Her grandma was gagged and a walkie talkie was next to her. The man from before planned this. He did something to her Grandma.
The voice talked again, but it was a voice she had never heard from "Come with me." said that voice. Who was it? "Who-Who-Who are you?" She said as she took the radio.
"No one in particular," the voice responded.
"You're not helping. I asked-"
"I know who YOU are. Do you know who I am, is a good question, sweetie." She sensed a smirk from the other side of the walkie talkie. "I'll tell you who I am, if you follow your grandma." Her grandma looked at Scarlet's eyes. But Scarlet didn't see fear in her grandma's eyes. It was motionless. Her grandma turned and started to walk. Scarlet followed.
They turned into allies she never knew and her grandma still walking and walking. It seemed like she was a zombie. The black cloak she wore was sliding across the gravel. Scarlet, held the strings to her hood. She was telling herself it was safe and okay. Not to worry. Until her Grandma turned into a dead end. "Oops. Wrong way Scarlet," said her grandma. She turned and had a sack in her hand and ran towards scarlet and covered her head. She couldn't breathe, and she struggled, but the sack smelled horrible. She couldn't help it. Her head was hurting so bad from that smell, and she fainted.
