Chapter 19

      "Soobin what's going on?!" Hueningkai stuck to soobin like gum as they were quickly escorted to an underground cellar by castle guards. The king and queen were said to be hiding in their own safe spot. There were of course protocols for this.

"They said the princes quarters were breached. It probably means that an attack took place there." Soobin was scared at the sudden news, and was so glad Hueningkai had come looking for him when he did, all he could do was hold Hueningkai close.

"It's really cold down here." Hueningkai wasn't exactly dressed for anywhere but bed.

"Here. I'm warm." Soobin used his cloak attatched to the clothing he had worn for the dinner to cover hueningkais shoulders.

"It could be a while your highness." A guard notified them as they all say comfortably in the small cellar.

"That's alright. Thank you for escorting us safely." Soobin gave a thankful nod.

Hueningkai maneuvered to lay down, gently making soobin lay with him. Soobin didn't object, simply covering them both with his cloak.

So the rumors were true then...people really are trying to kill us...Soobin frowned at the thought.

"Wait wait!! Excuse me! What's happening to the prince's quarters?!" Taehyun ran to stop a guard before they could leave.

"There's a lock-in. The first prince was found with the forest boy and they're being kept in a secret location." The guard tried to go attend to the emergency but Taehyun held him in place.

"AND THE SECOND PRINCE??" Taehyuns expression surprised the guard, he knew he was the personal assistant of prince beomgyu, and expected he would be there with him.

Taehyun bolted past the guards up the stairs to the princes quarters, you could smell the smoke from the hallway, which meant there was most likely a fire.

"BEOMGYU!!! BEOMGYU ARE YOU IN THERE?! UNLOCK THE DOOR!!" Taehyun tried to open the princes door but realized that they had replaced the door. It only locked from the outside with a key. As a precaution to keep the princes inside.

"TAEHYUN I CANT!!! IT WONT OPEN!!" Taehyun felt at least some relieve hearing beomgyu wasn't screaming in pain yet. He did hear coughing though.

"Beomgyu listen to me, the guards are going to come soon to ram the door down. Can you get down on the floor?" Taehyun put his hand against the door, waiting for beomgyu to respond.

"I- I can't, the carpet is on fire.." beomgyus coughs became more frequent and Taehyun felt a tap on the door.

Taehyun knew that beomgyus ankle and wrist were injured, and the lattice had broken...so the balcony wasn't an option. At least it let some of the smoke escape from the room.

"Beomgyu back away from the door ok?" Taehyun waited until he heard beomgyu say he had moved. He tried so hard to kick the door in, hurting his knee slightly in the process.

"Damn it....Hold on theyre coming ok?" Taehyun was so worried but tried to keep a calm voice to not scare beomgyu.

It was too late and he could hear quiet sobs coming from the other side of the door. "You stupid horse boy!!! Why'd you put a new door!!" Taehyun felt hurt knowing he was the one that ordered a new stronger door.

"I know...I'm sorry...I read your letter..did you mean all that stuff?" Taehyun tried to bring up a topic to keep beomgyu from hyperventilating and breathing more smoke.

He saw the guards come with a battering ram for the door. Taehyun didn't get a response this time.

"Beomgyu? Beomgyu?! Hey they're here! Don't pass out!!" Taehyun stepped aside for the guards to ram the door down. With three rams the door busted off of the frame.

Taehyun beat the other guards into the bedroom, immediately spotting the prince on the floor, the fire had mostly stayed on the other side of the room.

"Beomgyu! Beomgyu hey get up we can't stay here." Taehyun slung beomgyus arm over his shoulder and lifted the boy, followed out of the room by concerned guards.

Taehyun didn't stop for guards to authorize anything, he took beomgyu straight to the medical wing.

The medical staff had expected a prince to come in today, and had already prepared a bed.

Taehyun sat himself besides the bed, shaking his knee while watching the nurses do a full checkup.

I should've never left. I should've taken the threats seriously...this is my fault....

"It's over, they've put out the fire." A guard opened the cellar door, shedding light onto soobin and Hueningkai sleeping under the cloak together.

"Your highness." The guard tried again, this time waking Hueningkai up.

Soobin woke up feeling hueningkais shuffling and groggy noises.

"It's safe. The king wants to have an emergency briefing with the two princes." A guard offered his hand but soobin refused.

"Only if Hueningkai can come this time. Stop addressing him as forest boy." Soobin took hueningkais hand and escorted himself out of the cellar, dragging Hueningkai along. With the attack just happening soobin had no idea what the damage was, but Hueningkai wouldn't be leaving his side.

"Can't you see that he is literally unconscious?!" Taehyun stopped the guard from touching beomgyu.

"It's law that the king's word must be followed. He demands a briefing with the princes alone." The guard sighed and tried again to take beomgyu from the bed.

Taehyun drew his sword now, standing between beomgyu and the guard.

"Listen pal....I'm his assistant and I have permission by the king to do whatever necessary to make sure he attends his next lesson. I'd back off if I were you." Taehyuns face was vicious, enough to scare the guard.

"I'll inform the king you obstructed his order." The guard promptly left, leaving an unfriendly aura behind.
  

Taehyun sat beside beomgyu with his sword drawn. Like hell someone would just drag an unconscious prince to a briefing.

Especially not his prince.
