Taehyun felt happy seeing the king lean down to kiss his stepsons forehead. The king was kind and fair, he was just a busy father. Why did anyone want to kill him and his family?Just because they wore crowns?
"I know I've never properly hung out with you...I'm sorry I brought you into royal life so quickly beomgyu..." The king ran his thumb over beomgyus cheek softly.
Soobin felt a pang of sadness and jealousy seeing the scene. His hand tightened around Hueningkais.
His father had always been busy, he knew he loved them, but he had lived with soobin since he was born and hadn't hung out with him! It wasn't fair.
"Alright...the horses are ready for you outside with the supplies. Take good care of my boys you two." The king sounded as though he would cry, which was probably why he left in a hurry.
"I want to get medical supplies, hueningkais house doesn't have any." Soobin looked to Taehyun before leaving with Hueningkai to get some.
Taehyun went to lift beomgyu from the bed but felt a wet drop hit hit hand.
Taehyun saw beomgyus eyes open with tears in them. "You're awake?"
Beomgyu didn't say anything, only sat up and hugged Taehyun. He didn't hate his stepdad, only the fact that they all had to be royal. He felt bad for ignoring the king and his step-brother.
"Hey, don't cry ok? You'll have plenty of time to bond with soobin in the forest I'm sure." Taehyun pulled beomgyu back and wiped the tears from his cheek.
"How do you feel?" Taehyun didn't notice anything out of the ordinary but beomgyu had woken up pretty fast.
"My head hurts. My chest is stuffy and my throat burns." Beomgyu gave his usual complaining pout to Taehyun, receiving a pillow to the face.
"Yep. You're normal, so you heard that we have to leave? We're going to hueningkais place in the forest. How's your ankle and wrist?" Taehyun went to examine for swelling down at beomgyus ankle.
Beomgyu smiled at the boy examining his injuries so carefully. He felt bad he had put Taehyun through all of this.
"Stop staring at me I asked if your ankle hurt." Taehyun twisted beomgyus ankle slightly, not hearing beomgyu wince in pain he figured it was alright.
"You have to tell me the truth right?" Beomgyu now lowered down to Taehyun, coming face to face.
Taehyun was panicked by the princes proximity but nodded. "Your memory is intact too then."
"Do you care about me? About what I think?" Beomgyus eyes felt like they were burning through Taehyun.
"What a random question of course I care I'm your assistant. About what you think?...." Taehyun thought about it for a second.
Taehyun didn't care what anyone thought about him. No matter what you do, someone will hate it, so why worry?
Now that he had the thought in his mind though....he remembered back to all the little things he had subtly changed.
Bringing beomgyu food he'll eat and making sure it was without tomatoes, because beomgyu didn't like them.
Waking up earlier to see beomgyu wake up, even if there were no lessons, and..
Being really hurt at the idea beomgyu didn't think he was competent, about beomgyu maybe getting a new assistant. It had hurt.
"Yes. I care what you think." Taehyun told the truth and stood, offering his hand.
Beomgyu sulked but took his hand, standing and finding relief in the fact his ankle didn't shoot with pain when he stood on it.
"I've never lived in the forest before." Beomgyu grew anxious with every step they took down the hallway, it only worsened when he saw that they were riding horses.
"Well then you've just been treated like a princess, royal or not." Taehyun felt beomgyu hesitate in his hands.
"Scared? You can ride with me if you want." Taehyun climbed atop the saddle of aengdu and offered his hand down to beomgyu.
"Thank you." Beomgyu took Taehyuns hand and tried to use the stirrups like he was taught, to swing his leg around.
Beomgyu failed of course, nearly falling back off of the horse when Taehyun grabbed his waist tightly, pulling him up behind him.
"Since I tell you only the truth, I want you to be forced to do something for me too." Taehyun took the reigns in his hand and looked over his shoulder to beomgyu, who was already clinging tightly to Taehyuns waist.
"It depends what that is." Beomgyu made a sour expression thinking of having to answer true to anything Taehyun asked.
"You have to keep any promise you make to me." Taehyun smirked seeing beomgyu look shocked.
"A promise? Yeah I can keep promises, if I don't want to do them I just won't promise them." Beomgyu didn't see anything hard in this agreement, he got the better end of the stick.
"Then your first promise is that you can't get hurt for at LEAST two weeks. Not even a papercut." Taehyun had enough heart attacks with beomgyus attempted escape and the fire.
"Fine. I promise."
"Sorry we're late! Something happened!" Soobin ran with the bag of medical supplies in case anyone got hurt in the forest. Not making that mistake again.
"What did you lose Hueningkai or something?" Taehyun scoffed with a laugh.
Soobin was awfully silent as Hueningkai walked up behind him.
"You really did lose him for a bit didn't you?" Beomgyu believed it, the castle was impossible to navigate if you hadn't grew up there.
"WAIT WAIT!!!!" Yeonjun's voice came suddenly running and crashing into soobin with a hug.
"You're leaving again. You'll come back soon right?" Yeonjun felt bittersweet saying goodbye to the prince again.
"Yes, were only going to stay there until the situation dies down." Soobin smiled and hugged his bestfriend back.
"Stay safe alright?" Yeonjun patted soobins back when they pulled away from the hug.
"You too." Soobin strung the medical bag over the saddle and hopped up onto the horse.
Hueningkai fiddled his fingers, waiting on the ground beside soobins horse.
"You want to ride with me?" Soobin was surprised, but remembered that Hueningkai probably didn't know how to ride a horse.
"I can ride a horse with him! Taehyun taught me." Beomgyu smirked all proud, but taehyun moved and held beomgyus hands around his waist, stopping him from getting off aengdu.
"Please you can't ride a horse to safe your life we still have so many lessons to do. Take Kai would you?" Taehyun looked to soobin.
Beomgyu pouted, if he hadn't been so panicked running away he bet he wasn't THAT bad of a rider. "Taehyunnnnn let go I want to ride m-"
"HYAH!"
Soobin had no choice when Taehyun suddenly took off with beomgyu.
"Here." Soobin smiled and reached down to help Hueningkai on the back of the saddle.
Hueningkai made a little whine.
"What? Is there not enough room?" Soobin figured Hueningkai was whining because he was uncomfortable, but Hueningkai stared at the reigns with puppy eyes.
"You want to learn?" Soobin laughed, receiving a nod. Hueningkai was just too adorable to refuse, so he hopped off the horse and let Hueningkai scoot to the front of the saddle.
Soobin got on behind Hueningkai and was met with a gay crisis.
Where do I put my hands???!
