Éponine's POV

I woke up on my best friend's couch, groggy and my head pounding. I saw my dress from the night before on the ground. I was wearing one of Grantaire's t-shirts.

"R!" I called, feeling as if I'd get sick.

"Good morning, Ép," Grantaire laughed, coming into the living room from the kitchen.

"Why did you let me get drunk last night?" I whined.

"I tried to stop you, but then I got drunk as well. So my plan was thwarted," he said.

"Do you remember getting here?" I asked, rubbing my temple.

The night before, we had gone out with Les Amis. And I had a few too many drinks.

"I think Courfeyrac and Combeferre brought us back here," Grantaire shrugged.

The four of us were very close, and it didn't surprise me that one of them had changed me into a t-shirt. I trusted the three of them with my life, ever since we were sixteen.

I remembered the day we met like it was yesterday. I was walking home from work, and it was dark. I heard the men behind me one second before they made their move. They grabbed, pinning me against wall. I screamed, apparently attracting Combeferre, Courfeyrac, and Grantaire. The three men that held me down were trying to grab my purse, and the few dollars I had left. 'Ferre, Courf, and R came around the corner then, shoving and punching the men mugging me. Then they took me to get some pizza, and we've been best friends ever since.

"Ép?" Grantaire waved a hand in front of my face, snapping me out of my memory.

"What?" I asked.

"I said, I'm going to the Cafe Musain. Would you like to join me?"

"I'll have to go back to my place and change. Meet you at the cafe?" I suggested, walking to the bathroom and getting changed back into my dress from the night before. It's not a walk of shame if you didn't do anything shameful. Besides getting wasted.

"Let me walk you, Éponine," Grantaire insisted when I walked out of the bathroom.

It was pretty common knowledge that I didn't live in the best area of town. I shook my head, stretching and yawning.

"I'll be fine, R. I've got a knife on me. I'm not a 16 girl anymore. The most helpful thing you could do is get me some water and aspirin," I laughed.

He shook his head, chuckled, and got up to get it.

"How about another beer? Hair of the dog?" Grantaire suggested, grabbing two bottles. I grabbed the aspirin from the medicine cabinet and a bottle of water from the refrigerator.

"No, only you cure a hangover by getting drunk," I sighed, looking around until I located my purse and shoes.

"And it works everytime!" he called as I walked out the door.

A little while later, I was walking into the Cafe Musain.

"There's our Ép!" Courfeyrac shouted beside me, making my head pound.

"Really, Courf?" I whined, rubbing my temples.

"We told you not to get drunk last night," he laughed, slinging an arm around my shoulders and pulling me over to the table where all Les Amis sat. I was greeted with a chorus of 'hello's and I waved, sitting down.

I was pretty close to all of Les Amis. Except one-the Marble Man. Their 'fearless leader.' Enjolras was persuasive and smart, but totally delusional, not to mention arrogant. Unfortunately, Marius (who I was kind of in love with) was Enjolras' best friend. Speaking of which...

"Where are Enjolras and Marius?" I piped up.

"Don't know. Usually, Enjolras would be the first one here," Combeferre shrugged.

We made casual conversation for a few minutes before the door opened and in came Marius and Enjolras, looking like they had just been in a fight.

Scratch that.

Looking like they had just lost a fight.
