Her breathing came out in ragged huffs as she stumbled blindly through the cobbled and barren streets of the city. Townhouses loomed over her seeming like sleeping giants shrouded in the shadows of the night. The street lamps that lined the avenue on either side, casting faint a glow over the pavement, unable to mask the dark miasma that hung over the city and unable to tame her fear.

She was being followed. She could feel it.

As the uneasiness grew in the pit of her stomach, so did the sound of her feet hitting the wet pavement underfoot as she raced down the never ending street. A sinister and dark chuckle filled her ears, seemingly coming from every angle, shooting a chilling sensation up her spine. The shadows that towered around her seemed to swell at the sound, tendrils of darkness snaking dangerously towards the woman, coiling around her ankles and constricting, pulling her feet from under her.

Exhausted and defeated, the viscous shadows crawled up her legs, her chest, her neck.

A voice growled lowly in her ear before the darkness encompassed her entirely.

You can run, but you can't hide.
