It all started about 10 years ago. Yeah, that year. I was eleven years old, and I had a fairly decent, fairly normal upbringing. But what I was too young and naive to know at that age was that every good thing comes with the bad. Now, most people wouldn't have to go through that much, but me... I still can't fully process how bad things could get.

Anyway, I'm at home doing my homework like every other day. Suddenly, I hear my name. My real name. Looking around, I wonder why my mother was calling me.

"Sweetie?"

"Mother? Why are you home already?" I wonder aloud. "Come upstairs, hun. We need to talk." Huh?

Shaking my head vigorously, I get back to my schoolwork. There's no way my mother could be home right now. I mean, I didn't even hear her come in. "COME UPSTAIRS!!"

I jumped several inches when I heard the yell. Finally deciding to stop ignoring her, I went upstairs to my parents' bedroom. My mom was standing there with her hands on her hips, her lips pursed so tightly, it looked like she was eating super sour candy. Anyway, seeing her like that scared me because I'd never seen that look from her before. I didn't know what to expect, but I certainly could've never even imagined what happened next.

In a matter of about five seconds, the lady standing in front of me grew fangs and lunged at me. I screamed and tried to move out of the way. Of course, I wasn't fast enough, and I was clumsy. So I tripped, naturally, and the lady demon... thing walked slowly towards me, savoring her quick victory. Then, faster than 11-year-old brain could process, my real mom appeared betweent the demon and me. "You!!" hissed the demon. My mother responded calmly and deadly, "Me. Get away from my daughter. In fact, get away from my family if you know what's good for you."

Obviously, this demon thought the same thing I did, and that is that it was about to have two tasty humans for dinner. Turns out, we were both wrong. As soon as the demon lunged, my mom grabbed the demon's head and ripped it off cleanly. I'm pretty sure I screamed super loud as the demon, and its head, disappeared. My mom looked back at me and smiled, but the smile seemed quite forced.

"We need to talk. I was hoping to never have to have this conversation with you, but now it's inevitable. Let's go downstairs. There's a lot I need to explain."

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

As she was "explaining", I couldn't help but start laughing. "I knew it would be tough for you to believe me," my mother told me with extreme sympathy in her voice. "I mean, when this first was explained to me by my mother, I laughed even harder than you are laughing now. I just hope that you take these things to heart quicker than I did."

"Mommy?" I said. "Yes, sweetheart?"

"How can I believe it or take it to heart? It's all so unbelievable. I mean, demons, vampires, and magick? That's all fiction and fairy tales."

"Was that thing upstairs fiction or a fairy tale?" my mother asked, raising her eyebrows. "That could've been exhaustion. That's been known to make people hallucinate."

"Alright, smarty pants," my mother chuckled, "go get some sleep. When you wake up, fully rested, I'll show you something magickal." Scoffing, I went back upstairs and headed to bed.

"AAAAAAHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!"

I woke up drenched in sweat, and my mother rushed into my room. She put her hand on my chest, and my breathing quickly went back to normal.

"Sweety, what was it about?" My mother was looking at me with a mixture of concern and what seemed like fear, although she was really trying to mask it.
