Willamante, OH: July 13, 2019

It was another nice summer day at the Willamante Public Library. Though it was the weekend, it seems not many felt like exploring the fantastic world of the imagination. Bet most were excited about the new mall that opened this year. I think I heard it would be the largest in the country. All I could do was shake my head at the thought that Willamante's two major tourist areas are the Willamante World Wondermarket and of course the dark past that was The Willamante Nightmare of 2006. After looking over the library I decided to head back to my office for a little research into one of my hobbies, the secret of the occult in world history.

I enter my office, which to the untrained eye looks like a storage rooms of books, and look around for some research that caught my eye recently. This was the second month in a row that I have been studying a pulp secret, but I knew there were more lies than truth to much of it. Of course I had stumbled upon something that might give me the inside scoop about this particular cabal of secrets. And at that moment that source wrapped his arms around the back of me and whispered in my ear, "What are you working on Mr. Paradox?" Karl Strauss, also known as Kapitan Wonder to those who have seen his super hero persona, was a 6'4" man with a magnificent muscle structure, shining blue eyes, and shaggy dark brown hair that traveled down that sculpted face. He was also the man I loved. Also for any who were wondering Mr. Paradox is a bit of nickname I picked up that I use as a pseudo-name online while searching for any occult information I can. Anonymity couldn't hurt with some of the things I discovered.

I said in a perfectly calm voice, "One of these days I am going to figure out how a guy your size moves so quietly. And to answer your question, Karl, I am doing what I am usually doing when you sneak up on me in my office. Research."

"On what?" Karl asked me quizzically.

"On a subject you may be familiar with," I replied while showing him the very symbol that appears on his chest when he is Kapitan Wonder. Karl immediately stepped away from me and even though he was behind me I could feel his troubled expression. I turned in my chair to look at him and he wouldn't meet my eyes. "That is a part of my life I rather not relive," he mumbled. Part of me didn't want to push but the scholar in me couldn't help it. I gave him a stern look and asked, "So there is a connection between you and the Thule Society?"

"Sheisse. Do I look like I want to talk about those Drecksau? That part of my life is long since done," Karl replied furiously.

"You never speak about where you come from. You keep the details hidden. I know enough that you were in World War II and fought for the Nazis until you gained your powers. After that you left it all and moved to America after the War. There is a big gap in there you do not talk about and I am worried it may eat you away from the inside. Invincible or not," I kept on with almost heartless abandon but with a bit of concern as well, "You can't hide it forever. You have to tell someone. If not me then whom?" That got his attention and that silver glow came to his eyes. I know that glow. It shows when he is trying to read the truth in people. I gave him a very dirty look for showing such mistrust in me. "If you don't trust me to talk about it then I guess I can continue alone for the rest of the day. Sorry to bother you with it."

I heard him start going off where he was after I turned away from him, "Gottverdammt, ich muss lernen, jemandem ohne meine Vision zu vertrauen." I glanced his way and he looked like he was trying to resign himself for something huge. Karl then said, "The Thule-Gesellschaft was not what history books and historians thought it was. They didn't even get the members right. And what they wanted was something far worse than anything Das Vierte Reich ever would have achieved..."
