IV – Grand Exit

                                   ♣ Gentleman-at-Arms ♣

"Hatter!"

"Alice!" I called out in the darkness. I felt Hare land on my shoulders, paws on my hat.

"Get her, Hat!" He said as we fell. His paws felt strong behind my back as he pushes me forward, sending him sailing behind. Tucking both arms, I rolled in mid-air and plummeted down and down.

There's just a major problem. I cannot see her.

I continued to fall into the darkness, frantically trying to search for her and failing. My eyes, whether closed or open show nothing but darkness. Wishing that they had the vision of a cat, I called her name once again. Normally, I could see in the darkness but after spending time in the Queen’s territory for so long, that ability faded over time. This time, panic broke through the glass of calmness. She screamed my name, this time, louder, closer-

Just below me.

And there was light.

I saw Mistress Alice before she saw me. She was plummeting down as well, though not as violent and quickly as before. Her hair was flowing as if she treaded through water and her skirt had billowed providing her grace just like how it was when she had come here for the first time. The frills of her dresses danced about as wind hit them--there was wind just below us and to how we are falling quite slowly, I do not know--the ribbons around her skirts swaying as well. Despite how graceful she looks like right now, she's clearly still afraid. And yet..

She is magnificent.

Snap out of it, you idiot. You are a servant and she's your mistress.

Looking up, I saw Hare, umbrella in hand, falling ever slowly like Alice. He was grinning at me, making kissing noises and batting his eyes at me, obviously amused and entertained. Glaring, I motioned for him to shut up, making him chuckle. Pivoting, I saw that Alice had turned around.

She was staring at me with her emerald green eyes--wait, no, were they green? They looked as if they had a tinge of blue within them. Anyway, she was staring at me, confused and a moment later, her dress bulged and immediately, I looked away, flushing. She gasped then yelped, pushing down her skirts as Hare hollered. Shaking my head, I was about to return my attention to Mistress Alice when I noticed everything around us are upside down.

Oh God.

All are elaborate, expensive, wrong-side upped furniture. Chairs with intricate carvings of roses and vines circled around us. Clocks, some chiming, some silent, passed by us and one even struck midnight--obviously wrongly and poorly set for it is still around nine--and chimed, a squawking cuckoo bird pushing the doors of the clock. Globes and magnifying glasses flew from the glass tables below, hitting me lightly on the head which made Hare laugh. Wardrobes with dresses remained where they are, still floating, yes, but their doors were opening and closing, allowing us a glimpse of elegant and magnificent dresses; a vanity table flew up immediately, almost knocking me off balance. Mirrors loomed before me, my very person its reflection.

Raising an eyebrow, I sighed exasperatedly as I adjusted my hat; I'm not really one who drowns in vanity and pleasures but one must be presentable. After all, my position demands the need of myself to be well-groomed. It could be possible that when I'd cease tidying up, I'd receive less admirers and chatter. But then again, if I'd look very filthy, I'd receive dirty looks and discriminations.

My thoughts were cut short when I heard Hare laugh. Turning around, I blinked at him. He was grinning at me, hands still on the umbrella's handle. After a cocky smile, he mouthed the word, 'narcissist' then laughed.
