II – Pledge As Creed
♣ Gentleman-at-Arms ♣
Glad--no, ecstatic--was I when I finally have seen her, to finally be able enough to speak with her. After all these years of waiting, melancholy and longing....! I desire to speak with her about everything she must know, everything I want her to know but I shan't deign to do so. Furthermore, we have not much time and I believe I have frightened her.
We continue our mad sprinting--or to be quite clear, it was only I for Mistress Alice was carried in my very arms--and for the record, there were three brigades of soldiers that were obliged to kill me and all I have vanquished victoriously--and brutally, I must say. Not to mention the fact that three ear shots of Mistress Alice's screaming assaulted me every time I finish one brigand. At the third scream, I found myself laughing.
Well, I am the Mad Hatter, am I not?
"Hatter."
I bent my head and met Mistress Alice's emerald green eyes. "Yes, dear Alice?"
She looked at me, frowning. Frowning? What have I done wrong?
"Put me down. And don't call me 'dear' for I am not your dear anything."
Laughing, I set her down, hearing another set of footsteps and the clanking of heavy armour. Instinctively, I whirled around, twirling my gun on one hand as a lone soldier launch himself forward. Focusing on almost nothing but him, I willed the very bones that make up my fingers. Without any hesitance, I shot him square in the forehead.
And he fell to the ground, his armour composing a descant song rising in the hallway.
And as usual, Mistress Alice screamed.
Though it was a bit amusing, it was tiring to hear another scream. Sighing exasperatedly, I grabbed her by the hand and pulled her towards me. Unfortunately for myself, I would have to lean; she has gotten shorter than I had expected her to be which was rather troublesome. Before, we were of the same height.
"Mistress Alice-"
"I'm not your mistress of anything!" She exclaimed, trying to pull her hand away from my grasp. "If I am indeed someone's master, then I must say that I do not even remember hiring anyone in my defense!"
Stubborn and witty as always, I thought, smirking as I affixed my gun to its casing and circling one arm around her waist. With one finger, I lifted her face up to mine and whatever she feels or thinks about the intimacy or incongruity of my action, I do not give a single ounce of care. Although, I must confess that I could imagine myself doing something absolutely improper...
Pushing the very thought away, I forced to meet her own eyes, knowing they were doubtlessly filled with surprise or confusion. "Now, you listen to me, Mistress Alice," I say, not smiling now. "We need to move fast unless if you want yourself to stare at all the people that will watch your head on a block through your lifeless eyes or worse."
A shocked sound escaped her lips and fear clouded her eyes. Indeed, I was becoming too blunt, too forthright but to be in such manner is what I need; to get straight to the point is a must for we are lacking time.
I expect her to nod and listen intently and she did. I also know quite well that if the situation at hand isn't so dangerous, I cannot stop myself from staring back and wouldn't even allow tearing my gaze away from hers. She always has that..effect on me, one that no woman in Domandare has on me. I cannot say that I am absolutely not tempted to lean closer. In fact, there were times her lips would curl in a marvelous way that I would want to pull her closer and--
