Spill it

I kept staring at the text message, trying to make it seem normal or real. The text was so odd to be from work, giving time to Jungkook. Time for what?

I got shivers by thinking this could be happening again.

I wanted to be sure so I dug a little bit deeper. I found out the other text messages he's been getting, lots of calls between him and Jimin, more than usual. He has also been calling his friends a lot.

But one message was shining from the others. ''Your father is waiting for your answer.''

I couldn't function anymore. This is all happening again, and Jungkook has been hiding it from me. The message seems to have been sent weeks ago.

And are the guys with him? Are they aware of it? Of course, they must be aware of it. Jungkook wouldn't hide this from them too because it could put their families in danger again as well.

But why is he lying to me again? Or leaves it untold.

I decided to let it be for this weekend. As much as I wanted to confront him about this right here and now and hear the actual truth, I couldn't. I want Misuk to have a nice weekend along with Jungkook's friends and us.

I don't want to ruin it by arguing and making myself or Jungkook leave the house again. I couldn't forgive myself if that would happen and Misuk would spend her birthday without her mom or dad.

Jungkook walked into the kitchen. I looked at the clock.

''Shouldn't you be putting the kids to bed?''

''Taehyung wanted to read a story to Misuk, and Hangeum was too excited to hear about what he has been doing in Daegu all this time. So a father wasn't allowed to the room,'' Jungkook joked about it.

It was so hard to look at him in the eye and smile like I always do. ''Well, the decoration is ready for tomorrow. When the guys' planes land?''

I tried to keep the conversation normal as much as I could and not make it seem like I wasn't doing well in a mental state. Jungkook always notices it immediately.

''I think it was pretty early because the other flights were late at night. They also told me I didn't have to pick them up. They will take an Uber to the hotel and come later in the afternoon.''

I nodded.

He came behind me to hug me from behind. He rested his chin on my shoulder and just started wobbling side to side. ''You're offly quiet, any reason?''

Gotchá.

''I'm just a little tired, that's all. All this preparation is a bit overwhelming when they're older enough to understand the meaning of a birthday.''

''Then we should head to sleep so we have plenty of rest for tomorrow. Our daughter is turning two, can you believe it?'' Jungkook smiled himself.

I smiled back. ''Yeah, it's crazy.''

Jungkook led me to our bedroom, and we started to drift to sleep. Jungkook was clued to my side, his hand tightly around my waist, and I could feel his breath against the back of my neck.

My heart hurts.

At the same time, it hurts to know he's practically lying to me again and keeping things from me when we promised to tell each other everything. But then it must be because he wants to protect me and save me from it.
