A muffled sound of rain fills my ears as lightning crashes overhead. I hear the rain start to pour as I feel the dampness of the mud below me, and the crusted blood flaking as the rain sprays over my apparent wounds as pain springs my brain into a much more level of awareness.
Wait. Hear? Feel? I can think? How am I alive?
I force myself, even though the millions of questions making my splitting headache worse prevent me from doing so easily, open my eyes. I immediately shut them from the rain pouring into them and from the brightness as another shock of lightning shatters the sky with blinding light. I roll over, my body aching. I open my eyes again to see dirt, trees, and mountains in the distance.
What? Where am I? This isn't the city-!
My train of thought immediately gets cut off by the thundering onslaught of pain in the head as flashes of images invade my brain. I yelp in pain. I hold my head as my eyes water and dart around the forest.
What was that?! What's going on..?
I scramble up, noting that my leg isn't broken. I stand up, only for more images to rush through my thoughts. I begin to shake with pain and fear. I stumble around.
"Shochan?! Kacchan?! Are you here?!" I call, although somehow knowing that it's useless. They weren't here. Tears leak down my eyes. More images flash through my head and a pair of familiar faces stand out to me.
Kota? Eri? Were they out here? If so, I need to find them. Something tells me that even here, they aren't safe. Maybe even less than back in the city.
I stumble around, and I accidentally trip on a hidden root, taking a nose dive into the ground as my head rings and pounds furiously. I cry out at the pain, not caring at the new bleeding wounds from falling. I blink away tears and I look down as I sit up, seeing my reflection.
What the hell?
I reach up to touch my forehead. I haven't felt anything before, but there's no doubt. I do indeed have black horns on my head.
But why are they here? What is happening?! Is this some nightmare?! Did I actually survive that collapsing building and I'm in a coma?! If that's the case, then my Shochan and Kacchan are waiting for me to wake up!
With a new drive, I stumble back up and I try to find something to help me wake up, but the nagging feeling of finding Eri and Kota first weighs on me. I sigh.
I have to find them first. I can at least make sure they're ok before trying to figure out a way to get out of here and see my husbands.
I glare into the blackness of the forest as billowing clouds of jet black smoke cover the starry night sky. I take a deep breath and I exhale briefly before I trudge deeper into the forest, determined to find the children, somehow knowing where they are. My images flash in my head as my memories falter.
