A/N: it's New Year's Eve!?! Already? It's almost eleven o'clock... 2015 in one hour 😮

'Marcus?!'
'Alfie, what's wrong?' Marcus thought back instantly, and I blew out a relieved breath.
'Are you okay?'
'What happened?'
'Someone just tried to kill me. Are you all still outside?' The door flew open, and my knife was stopped by James's, who looked down at the body on the floor.
"It's clear, guys." He called over his shoulder, stalking over to the body and rolling it over. "Average vampire."
The security team flocked into the room, and I headed out, before Marcus had grabbed me. "You okay?" He asked me, eyes worried.
"I'm fine." I grinned back, walking over to Eva, Kian and Torry with him. They were watching me anxiously. "I've had worse, don't worry."
"But, if you'd been asleep..." Eva murmured.
"I've always told you, don't think of the what if's." I said firmly. "My main concern is how he got in so easily."
"Because we don't have a current king." Lawrence told me. "When his highness said he was retiring, the magikal bonds to him broke. When you're king, they'll go to you, but for now, we don't have great security. We were lax, and that's because we forgot, and it's our fault."
"Which also means we might all loose our jobs." Matt sighed, coming over.
"No you won't." Shaking my head, I let a smile creep onto my face. "Because now I'm technically the one who sorts all that out."
"You mustn't favour your friends." Lawrence said gently. "I know what you mean, in this situation, but I'm going to say it."
"That would be saying I was like Hitler." My eyes narrowed. "Thinking of my small group of peers, not everyone around me. I'm not like that."
'Chill, it's okay.' Marcus laced his fingers through mine.
"I apologise." Lawrence nodded. "All I ask, as strange as this sounds, is that you do fire us if we do not match the expectations."
"But you do." I shrugged.
"Dad, what about my friends?" Torry asked nervously. "If the security isn't good, will they be okay?"
"Connor was with Dan and Phil, so I'm sure he'll be fine. Everyone else went to the bunkers." Crouching down in front of him, I saw his despair misting over his blue eyes. "Absolutely fine."
"Just don't follow your dad and go running off, okay?" James smirked, before he gave something to Torry. "You might like this."
"Awesome." He grinned. It was a small chain, with a black crystal hanging off it. A death crystal, which helped boost death magik, as it contained a limited amount of death magik.
"Eva." Andy gave her a pale green one - life.
"Thank you." Eva smiled at him, slipping it onto her wrist. It glowed momentarily, linking it's magik to hers.
"Kian, catch." Alex came over, throwing a red (fire) crystal at Kian. Kian had taken after Dan, and was a fire branch, as well as Summer, but Connor was water, the complete opposite.

A/N: I stop here to say HAPPY NEW YEAR!!! I may or may not have kissed my Dan pillow at midnight, I'm weird, I know. Oh well. I could be completely alone... ANYWAYS, HAPPY NEW YEAR!

"Who's even attacking?" Eva looked upset, glancing at the covered window.
"The streeters. Stupid lot, we almost wiped them out last time they tried." James snorted, tying a knife to his belt. "Well, see you all later."
Most of the security left, taking off to join the fight. Time passed slowly, with the occasional boom or screams.
"What did you do before you were a vampire, dad?" Torry asked, making Marcus and I both hesitate. "Why didn't you grow up here?"
"You were turned, weren't you?" Kian curiously leaned forwards. "But if you're the heir..."
"My vampire side was suppressed until I was bitten." I said finally. "Before which I lived as a YouTuber in the other world."
"YouTuber? But, YouTube was a video thing." Eva scrunched her nose up.
"We were both famous YouTubers." Marcus said firmly. "None of you need to know the rest."
"Why?" Torry whined.
"Because, Castor, some things are not for your knowledge!" I snapped, seeing them shrink away. It'd been years since I had called Torry by his full name.
"If we discover any of you has tried to find out, there will be consequences. Clear?" Marcus fixed a hard stare on each of them. They nodded meekly.
"Sorry."
"Most of the attackers are dead, captured or fled." Lawrence was leaning against the wall, watching Kian, Torry and Eva closely. "And I'm going to ban you lot from the history section of the library."
"We're just curious." Kian sighed.
"Don't be. Curiosity killed the cat." I let my gaze bore into him. Marcus leant his head on my shoulder, and we sat in silence for ages.
"All clear!" Someone yelled, and we stood up, leaving the tower and going back to our rooms with James and Andy trailing after. Dust covered the castle in a fine layer, but everything seemed otherwise unharmed.
The door to our rooms had a magikal lock that I swiftly undid, closing the door behind us. "Thank god that's over." Marcus sighed, throwing his shirt off and stretching his arms and legs out before beckoning me over, tilting his head to the right.
After I'd drank, we both organised the items that had been thrown about by the shaking. Once everything was clear and tidy, night had fallen.
"What a waste of a day." Marcus snorted, changing into some sweats and getting into bed. I joined him, and he tucked my head under his chin, arms around me. We both gradually fell asleep, my mind whirring over who might have been lost in the attack.
**************************************************************
"Your Highness!" Someone was pounding on the door as Marcus and I both stirred.
"Alfie, Marcus, open the goddamn door!" Zoe screamed, and we both leapt up. She pulled us out as soon as the door was open. "Peter."
Peter was Tanya and Jim's only son. "What?" We both demanded.
"He was injured badly, he's in the infirm-" already, we were running down the corridor, and Luc and Lawrence took off after us. As soon as we reached the infirmary, I heard sobbing. Tanya was crying into Jim's shoulder, and the two guards kept on glancing at them sympathetically.
"What's wrong?" I asked her quietly.
"P-Peter!" She sobbed. "P-please help him!"
"Let us in." I said softly to the guards, and they opened the door, Marcus giving Tanya and Jim one last look before he walked after me. The curtains were drawn around a bed to the left.
"He's in a bad state, Your Highness. You probably don't want to go in." Mary stopped me.
"I don't care how bad he is, I'm going to try to heal him alongside what treatment he has been given." I said firmly, and she nodded. Marcus and I slipped behind the curtain, and Marcus turned a pale green colour.
Peter had the majority of his right leg missing, his right arm sliced up so much that it resembled a pile of flesh, not an arm. While no magik swirled around him, he wouldn't be able to heal such bad injuries quickly.
"He may never get his arm or leg back." A healer told me. "It's unlikely, to be honest, Your Highness."
"It's okay. Can I have a diagram?" Tears rose in my eyes as I looked down at the familiar face, but I blinked them back, looking between his arm and the detailed diagram I was given, before I used my magik to start to shift it.
The process was slow and gruesome, Marcus helping me with his own magik. Several hours later, the once pile of flesh somewhat resembled an arm, but I didn't think it would work just yet. My head and eyes were aching, so I decided to take a break.
"How - how is he?" Tanya hiccuped as we left the infirmary.
"Peter'll survive, he's strong. We just need a break." I smiled at her.
"Thank you." Jim murmured, and we both grinned at them before heading outside, Luc running after us.
"Some impressive work." Luc smirked. "Shame about his leg, though."
"Yeah, not a lot I could do." I sighed.
"Hey, it's better having an arm and no leg, then no arm and no leg." Marcus shrugged. "Even if said arm doesn't work."
"You'll fix it." Luc laughed as we walked towards the fountain in the park. "Besides, almost all the streeters are gone. We're looking at a peaceful future."
"Just in time for our reign." I looked out over the houses that were soon to be under my rule, with Marcus at my side. "Yay."
'You'll be fine.' Marcus took my hand, and the three of us walked to the fountain, which had remained pristine. When we sat down, I focused on the earth and started to grow some wild flowers I had seen in pictures, picking them and walking over to Caspar and Joe's graves.
"Hey." I whispered, putting half the flowers by each of the two headstones. Sitting cross-legged on the ground, I spent some quiet time with them, pondering over the memories I had with both of them.
"You ready to go back?" Marcus crouched by me, placing a hand on my back, watching the graves thoughtfully.
"Yeah." With one last glance at where my friends were buried, I walked back to the castle, running up the steps to the infirmary.
"H-hey." Tanya sniffed, trying for a smile. We all grinned at her, heading inside.
"He's still unconscious, Your Highnesses." Mary came over. "His arm is looking better, I must say."
"Thanks." Marcus laughed, and we slipped behind the curtain. Fortunately, his leg had been covered, and didn't look like it was bleeding anymore as we got to work on his arm again.
The nerves were a mess, and I spent hours arranging them precisely with Marcus helping. When the sun set again, we stopped, being shooed back to our rooms.
"Tiring." I huffed, crawling into bed. Marcus lay down next to me, wrapping his arms around me and we both drifted off, heads achingly numb from the hours of work.
********************
Time flew by, with us spending over ten hours a day working on Peter's arm. We'd agreed to keep him under a sleep spell until we were finished, so nothing went wrong.
"Um, dad?" Eva knocked timidly on our door one day as we were working on a spell together.
"Come in!" We both called.
"Hi." She shuffled nervously.
"There's not a spell to seduce Kian, just go tell him or something." Marcus smiled.
"Dad!" Eva blushed bright red, and we both smirked.
"Just remember, save anything until after bonding." I advised her. The blush grew brighter, and we both laughed, until she ran from the room, pulling a face at us.
"I can't believe our kids are so grown up." Marcus sighed, looking at the spot where she'd been standing. Suddenly, there was another knock on the door. "Yes?"
"Do you know where Eva is?" Kian asked, walking inside.
"She just went looking for you." I smirked. Shock flitted momentarily across his face.
"I was just kind of wondering..."
"You have our blessing, go away." Marcus returned to the parchment, and I laughed, watching as Kian left the room, grinning. "Alfie, concentrate. You've got two days until the coronation, and we need to finish this!"
"Oh, sorry." I rolled my eyes, scribbling down some more symbols. "ειρηνικό θάνατο?"
"Sounds about right." Marcus ran a hand through his hair. "Peaceful death... Can't be anything better, right? We've tried everything else."
"I think so." Glancing over at the clock, I sighed again. "Do you think -"
"DAD!" Torry ran at full speed into the room. "I'm in love!"
"What?" We both said blankly.
"You and Eva?" Marcus rolled his eyes. "Who is it?"
"That's the thing..." Torry nervously shuffled about. "Ikigabutintwnttellyou."
"Say that slower and louder." I prompted him.
"I - I'm kind of..." Torry flinched, looking away.
"Gay?" Marcus asked, and we waited until he nodded minutely. "And we have absolutely no problem with that."
"Who is it, Torry?" I asked, getting up and going over, hugging him lightly. He wouldn't meet my eyes. "Torry?"
"L..."
"L..." I repeated.
"There's about one person I can think of. Leo?" Marcus questioned, and Torry went bright red. "That's kind of cute."
"Dad!" Torry gasped.
"Don't worry." I laughed. "It might be best for you just to tell him, instead of spending a literal eternity thinking of the what ifs. It's really difficult, and I know that, yeah? But Eva's just gone to find Kian, and I'm sure both of you will be fine."
"What if he hates me?" Torry whispered miserably, glancing up at us.
"He won't, Torry." Marcus placed a hand on his shoulder.
"Okay." Taking a deep breath, Torry left.
"Did I mention we're getting old?" Marcus chuckled.
