Author's Note:
Sorta a vent, I guess you could see it as a very odd warp of events in my life. I actually have another oneshot I almost finished writing before this that I may work on after I publish this, cause I can't sleep.

Also this is like very incredibly long, lol. I hope you like it. Support would mean a hell of a lot right now.

Thank you.

I open my eyes, not even realizing that they're closed. My girlfriend gives me a warm smile from across the table as she starts to eat our dinner.

"How was work today, honey?" she inquires.

I sigh, letting her know the story won't be pretty. "Georgen is on my ass again, I didn't submit the expense reports on time because of the earthquake, but he was in Elbar, so his perspective is that it never happened-"

I realize that I've been rambling and quickly stop. As a response, she laughs.

"Alrighty then, so not great...amazingly, I have just the thing." And with that, she pulls out a beautifully wrapped little box.  There's only one thing it could be.

I tear into it immediately, paper flying everywhere. And there it is, the beautiful watch I've been wanting for 4 years!

"Honey...you didn't!"

"I did, Cole, because I love y-"

BEEP BEEP BEEP BEEP BEEP BEE-

The deafening sound of the morning alarm is enough to send me flying off my cot...as well as the rest of my bunk mates.

Just on cue, a robotic voice reads out the morning announcements.

Good morning sector 32-A, it is 6:30 AM on June 11th, 2102. Your assignment for today is in hallway 7 of the "Rose" building, through the 2nd door on the right. Oatmeal is being served this morning. Your next allotted break is in 22 days. You have 30 minutes to report to your duties.

It never breaks the same damn formula, getting more monotonous every single day. The look on all of our faces is enough for me to know everyone around me feels the same.

My clothes practically fly out of my chute today, almost hitting me straight in the face. I put them on as quickly as possible so I can get the first dibs on that oatmeal.

Running in the hallways is strictly forbidden, so I walk as briskly as my little legs can take me.

It kind of sucks how used to this I've become, getting up without any real understanding of who I am or why I'm here, but still following orders to the best of my ability. I guess I get a little satisfaction from the accomplishments I've achieved, even if they don't matter much at all. At least it merits me respect from my peers.

Finally, the shiny doors of the cafeteria, the best place on earth. I actually think I'm the first one to make it today, the only people visible when I open the doors are the workers.

We give each other a quick look, and then I grab a tray and head in one of there directions. We're on a first name basis, her and I.

"Goodmorning, JJ," I greet, a warm smile stretching across my face.

"You're up early here, Cole." She returns the smile, clearly happy to see me as well.

I give her a little shrug. "I'm hungry."
