"Sir! The thrusters have been destroyed! And the right wing broke off! The facility is about to collapse!"

"Well don't just stand there! Round up the Retrieval Squad and collect Operation Marina! We can't lose it!"

          "But Sir—"

          "Just do as I say!"

"So, the office called for me? What do they want now." I sip my coffee, eyeing Rouge for a response, but she quietly shrugs, batting her long eyelashes at the office door.

"I'm not too sure. Something about a mission I assume. But the high office? It must be extremely important." She breathes out, picking at her nails. "One thing's for sure, you better tell me what it's about when you get out dear."

I nod, ignoring her used monicker. Taking the last sip of my coffee, I sigh and throw the cup in the bin.

I loath going in the office. Not because it's beyond my league of profession, not even slightly. The presence of small minded humans just annoy me, not to mention their high and mighty attitude. No one simply bosses me around, though I can't really go against duty. If I could, they all would've been in the infirmary a long time ago.

"I'm going." I say, dusting my chest fur and walking towards the door. I look through the retinal scanner to verify my identity.

Shadow the Hedgehog.
Species: Hedgehog
Sex: Male
Age: 20
Height: 4 ft. 5 inches
Weight:
Standing: GUN Fur Field Agent, GUN Fur Staff Sergeant Major, GUN Team Captain (Team Dark, Reconnaissance Squad, Alpha Fur Squadron)

Access Granted

The door opens, revealing the people I disdain the most. They act like they're in charge yet they can't take a bullet without dying. Pathetic humans.

The room was lit enough to see, blue tinted lights illuminated bustling humans with their homework. The tinted windows didn't help with the low visibility.

"You're late." One states, and I give her a glare. "Step aside, don't waste my time." I retort, to her dismay. "Proceed to Section B Shadow. And knock please." I hear her sigh.

Almost 6 years at GUN and they still can't adjust to my ways. What a bunch of morons.

I enter Section B, and I'm immediately hit by cold air and the strong smell of lemon scented air freshener. It almost makes me gag. Curse these people and their weak sense of smell.

"Shadow, finally." The commanding officer comments, glancing down at me.

"You called?" I say.

"There's a special mission for you from the commander. I'm here to explain it to you. Take a seat."

"I prefer to stand."

He sighs. "As you do."

He grabs the remote for the projector and flicks through pictures of a ship. A large space ship. Comparable to a very familiar ark.

"This is Operation Marina. GUN highly classified incessant operation that operated for nearly a century. Until now."

He then shows pictures of the destroyed ship, the once massive spaceship became large chunks of floating metal, scattered debris and lastly, dead people.

"The ship was attacked. No intel about who, some speculated for it to be an inside job. But we can't say for sure due to its secrecy.

"The Operation information is only reserved for few GUN agents, which will now include you. A digital pamphlet located in front of you will contain all the details, but I will explain them as much as I can."

Swiping through the documents, I read quietly as he spoke.

"Operation Marina is a biological weaponry experiment introduced by Amelia Quinton, World Peace Control scientist back in 1939, after the First World War. The existence of anthropomorphic animals was under secrecy of the WPC at the time. Little was known but it was enough to know their capabilities.

"The aim of the operation was to selectively breed the anthropomorphic animals whilst siphoning Chaos Energy into their bodies to create ideal vessels.

"After attempts, the ideal species for the experiment were the Hedgehog species. They posses strong immunity systems, almost impenetrable skin, great eyesight and a natural ability to store Chaos energy, among other traits.

"This process was pursued for years to come. This however caused the endangerment of the hedgehog species. As of right now, data shows that there are only 300 registered hedgehog species in planet Mobius.

"But, this in turn produced the last alive descendant of the experiment."

He then flashes a picture of a clotheless female hedgehog, with white quills and a tan muzzle. Her body was in a clear cylinder, tubes ran through her like vines as dextrose surrounded her. She was in stasis.

"Her name is GA-677, but according to the last transmission, they called her Milkee. Daughter of Enzy and Jake. Enzy died giving birth, while over exposure to Chaos energy killed Jake."

My stomach churned. This is disgusting, despicable, just... horrible. How dare these people. I clenched my fist. I am speechless. Monsters. They treated these people like pigs in a slaughterhouse. They're the real animals.

"Milkee, according to the last transmission is 18 years of age, and has the highest concentration of Chaos Energy in her. Exceeding yours."

My ears perk up at the statement. Her body can take more of the energy? That doesn't make any sense.

"Briefly, the data shows that she is not as fast as normal hedgehogs, but instead has another ability in place of speed. She has the ability to create bombs by rearranging atoms of objects until they explode. As for defense, she has the ability to conjure barriers, though the strength of the said barriers are undetermined.

"Her body can take up 5-6 times more energy than normal hedgehogs, though it says here that this was measured 6 years ago. Right now she is required to wear 8 inhibitor rings, three on each wrist and one on each ankle, to contain her power.

"The only data present about her cognitive abilities are capability to write and read. Demeanor, very quiet and observant, social and inquisitive in some instances. Powers are controlled by sudden surge of emotions. That's all we have as of now. Any questions?"

I grit my teeth at his question. He asks as if he didn't explain cruel, appalling and disgusting information to me about my own species. But I swallow my thoughts. "What does this have to do with me?" I question.

"We're giving you the next few hours to examine and study current data on her, tomorrow afternoon we'll be on complete lockdown to release her from stasis. To help you, we're assigning Agent Rouge with you on this mission."

"I can handle a little studying on my own. I don't need four arms to take notes." I reply curtly, turning around to leave. His grunt halts me, and I give him a glare. "I don't think you understand Shadow." He starts.

Propping the remote on the table, he sighs and states bluntly. "She's going to need help developing her abilities, as well as fit in in our society."

"Cut to the point."

"You're going to be a mentor."
