You sighed as you rested your arms on the rail of the bridge. Over looking the dark water which was blanketed in the tiny light of stars you let your thoughts drift. Your life seemed painfully dull now that you were back in the human world. You missed the chaos of Devildom, the excitement of the deamon brothers dragging you off on another errand that you knew would only end in catastrophe. You had gotten so close to all of them, they felt like the family you never had. At least they called you and texted you, but for all that there was something gnawing in the back of your mind. Diavolo you missed him horribly and you cursed yourself for it. Despite your busy schedules you had formed a close friendship with him. Unsurprisingly it started with him asking you to investigate Lucifer for him but once you found out the answer to Lucifer's poor mood surprisly you and Diavolo kept texting one another. The clouds above you snapped with thunder as bright flash of lightning lite up the sky. Quickly you head off in the direction of your home. The rain was coming down in sheets as you pulled out your keys and jammed it into the lock. Once inside you slam your door shut and give a frustrated huff.
"Wonderful!" You spit angrily at your self "cause today was not shitty enough!" Your day felt like the world was against you if not all three releams. You had decided to serve your country, nothing was left for you here. Your parents had died when you were young leaving you to basically raise your younger brother and sister. Your aunt who came to stay with you served in the army and her stories of faraway places always had you day dreaming of some where better. Your aunt provided for you all you never needed for anything but she was not a mother. She tried though, instilling rules and discipline in the house. Which was probably why Lucifer's never bothered you in the slightest. Your brother and sister where twins and though they shared a close bond they could not have been more different. Your brother was extremely intelligent and gifted in academics, he was accepted two years early into a prestigious university. He reminded you alot of Satan with his cold intelligence and habit of knowing everyone but few people ever really getting to know him. Your sister had followed your aunt abroad to follow a very successful modeling career. She was basically Mammon only thankfully with common sense. You hung your key up on the hook by the door. Locking it you remove your sweater and hang it up to dry. The small house your parents left you felt empty and lonely. You sit on the stairs and look at your red sweater dripping in water from the rain. You remember the time Diavolo had removed his long red coat using it to shield you from the rain. You had pressed yourself up against him to try and warm up. You can remember how he smelled like sandalwood and the sound of his heart thumping wildly in his chest. It was your last night there and he had asked you to spend it with him. Yet he never texted you or called, and that hurt you more then you would ever admit. Placing your shoes over a heating vent to dry you head for the bathroom. The hot water felt good on your sore muscle and bruised leg. Some jerk had tried to steal your purse by pushing you in the corner of a building, only for him to earn a throw down and ass kicking from you. Of course it has been your favorite purse and of course he had to break the strap. After you clean up you step out of shower and dry off. Throwing on your favorite pajamas you gather your soaked clothes and head for the washing machine. When you hear your front door open. You freeze and listen as two sets footsteps enter your house and the door closes.
"My Lord we really should not break into miss M/C house." Barbatos says crossley.
"But I wish to surprise her." Diavolo says pouting. You face palm as you go to the top of the stairs.
"Surprise!" You yell down the stairs. To your delight and surprise Diavolo jumps slightly in surprise.
"That was horribly mean." Diavolo says crossing his arms. You roll your eyes and descend the stairs.
"Hello Barbatos, Diavolo." You say "would you like some tea."
"That would be quiet nice. Do you not agree Lord Diavolo." Barbatos says his hand on his chin. You gaze into his brilliant golden eyes with a mixture of anger and happiness in your own.
"Leave your shoes at the door, there are hangers in the closet." You say coldly. You throw your clothes in the washer and fill the kettle with water before putting it on the stove. "I have plain green tea, jasmine, apple cinnamon and peppermint." You call over your shoulder.
"Lord Diavolo would prefer the apple cinnamon. I shall have jasmine." Barbatos answered. You pull three cups out of the cupboard placing them on a tray, throwing a tea bag in each cup you grab a plate of shortbread cookies you baked the other day. Filling the cups with hot water you add a pot of sugar and matching jug of cream. You set the tray on the table and sit down across from them. You take your tea in your hands and blow on it.
"I've missed you M/C." Diavolo says his normal smile absent. His check are dusted a light pink.
"Really?" You reply.
"Truly," he said crossing his legs.
"Mmmmm," you say taking a small sip. "You would never be able to tell."
"Yes it seems I have been neglecting to contact you since you left." Diavolo said taking a breath. "I am sorry but something extremely important has been taking up most of my attention."
"Lord Diavolo perhaps you should be more straight forward about this matter." Barbatos suggested.
"Is everything alright?" You ask now very concerned. "Diavolo if is there anything I can do to help just ask." You reach out and take a hold of his hand.
"I should just be blunt then. I need you to marry me." Diavolo said smiling.
"Pardon." You say choking on your tea. Diavolo gives you one of his signature charming smiles.
"Please do not misunderstand Lord Diavolo. You merely need to pretend to be his beloved for a time." Barbatos replied off handley. You close your eyes and take a deep shaking breath. This was not good, you had just begun to move past him.
"Please tell me this is not some cruel joke." You say firmly.
"No, not this time." Diavolo said. "You see I find myself greatly admired by several very powerful persons and deamons. I am hoping by presenting myself as engaged that I may find rest from them if only for a while."
"Also your father stipulated that in order for you to become king you had to marry is that not right my Lord." Barbatos said sipping his tea. You blush hotly as you clear your throat,
"Why me?" You ask him.
"Because I trust you." Lord Diavolo says holding his hand out. You look at his hand then at him.
"Alright," You reply "but you owe me huge."
