I just want to point out that some parts may be identical to Savage-Defcon201's book, since that's where the idea came from. Like the first few words-

He had tried.
He tried everything.
That was seemingly pointless as Nightmare and his gang attacked another AU. What's the point pf continuing if it doesn't end up the way you want it to, you just don't move from square one. He wanted to go back and relive a time all those centuries ago, back with the tree. Where he had no guilt weighing his shoulders.
Dream wondered what would happen if he would've given up, which he already did.
Would the war between him and his brother finally end? Would he be finally free from fighting his brother daily? Would Nightmare return to his former self if Dream was overtaken by his own negativity? Was his purpose still worth fighting for? Did he even have a purpose anymore?
His thoughts weren't of the positive kind and Nightmare came over to taunt him about how negative he's been, Dream hated the expectation that he was happy 24/7, it wasn't always true, Dream wanted to snap at him telling him to shut up but he just stayed silent and gave Nightmare a face of "stfu and leave me alone, I'm so sick of everything at the moment" to which Nightmare left.
He was getting sick of it, quite literally. He coughed up a black substance, it reminded him of the goop Nightmare was covered in.
Nightmare was trying to figure out Dream's attitude towards him since this was quite new to him and he was a bit scared.
Dream thought about what could he do at their next battle since Nightmare always separated him from the rest.
Tem skip to their next battle
{Speach: Dream Nightmare}
Nightmare separated Dream from the rest, like usual, and asked him something.
"Why are you like this? Almost as if you don't care about anything anymore."
"Maybe I don't, why would you care anyway?" He snapped back.
"Huh, you seem mad at me."
"Almost as if I'm tired of trying to get you back and going around in circles 'cause nothing changes. It's been this way for years! I'M GETTING SICK OF IT!" Dream's shouting caught Nightmare off guard. "Why? Why can't we just get along like we used to."
"Shut up, you're the entire reason we're even fighting anyway. 'You call yourself a hero, yet you couldn't even save me.' Just like those many years ago. That hasn't changed, has it?"
Tears were threatening to spill from Dream eye-sockets. And yet, he still shot an arrow (made with the little positivity he had left) at Nightmare, he caught it in one of his tendrils.
"Why do you always do that when you know I catch it?"
"Why do you always attack me when you know I'd dodge?"
"Stop playing smart with me."
As if to prove Dream's point Nightmare sent a tendril at Dream which he jumped over making it hit the ground.
"Why don't you get it? I'm not coming back!"
"Oh I get it alright, I understood that when you came for a visit to taunt me for feeling negatively, that was me thinking about it, about how useless I must be if I can't even save you. And I absolutely hate when everyone expects me to be happy all the time, it's hard when you don't even have a reason to. I know the world isn't all sunshine and rainbows, I learnt it the hard way. With the hard way being you, you taught me that already, no reminders needed."
"Then why are you mad at me?"
"I'm not, I'm just annoyed of people thinking I have to be happy 24/7, which I don't."
"Ok, something is seriously up with you, you never act like this. Why are you acting like this?"
"None of your business."
Dream just walked away.
"What the f*** do you thing you're doing?"
"Nothing you need to know about."
"That's bulls***." He said in a surprisingly calm voice.
"How so?" Dream almost snapped back.
Nightmare didn't have a reply to that. He kept trying to make one but no sound left his mouth.
"See, not even you can think of a reason and you know me- ahem, correction: knew me better than anyone else." Dream said in a mocking fashion. "Now let me be."
He walked far away from his brother, back turned. He seemed to make something from thin air, another arrow. But this time, he didn't use his bow to shoot it at Nightmare, he pointed the shart end at himself.
"Dream what the f*** are you doing!? Put that down! What do you even plan to achieve with that?"
"Oh nothing, just ending my life so I don't have to see you again and remember that I couldn't even save you!" Dream cried, his positivity was very low, the lowest it ever was. "Don't you have better things to do?"
"Not that I know of, but there is one small thing you need to remember. I don't want you to get yourself hurt too badly, 'cause if you die, I die and I don't want that." Nightmare said, well, half lied.
This used to be fully true when they were in their AU, but the 'incident' made Nightmare's connection to the Tree of Feelings and Dream really weak. Therefore, that doesn't apply anymore, but only Nightmare knew that, if Dream died Nightmare would still live on as if nothing ever happened.
"For the time being, you're staying with me. I don't want to end up dying half-way through doing something." Nightmare said, he grabbed Dream by the hood {Dream's clothes do have a hood, or something that looks like a hood so it's that} and dragged him to his castle. He also took the arrow from Dream so he wouldn't hurt himself on the way to the castle.
{That's it for the Prologue, bai :3}
