My name is Ashley Montgomery. I am a second-year student at the University of Nevada studying  English Literature.

I recently took up a job as a fire lookout during the summer as I thought the extra money would help me through my next year of college. My landlord was telling me how he was going to have to raise rent on my house due to the complications caused by Coronavirus last year.

Obviously, I was not happy with the rent going up but, what can I do? My best friend, Camille, told me that there were a lot of job offers over the summer to serve as work experience for us, students. From waitressing to cleaning to retail, it was all there. I originally wasn't interested in taking any jobs until she told me we would get paid for it.

I decided to take the Fire watch job as I thought I would just be sitting in a tower, alone, all day looking out for fires or any campers trespassing to whatever. I could just use all the time to study in peace and be three steps ahead of everyone when classes started back up again. It's not like fires or whatever are common in these forests, I'm sure if I looked away for like, a day, nothing would happen. Most people probably take this job because it's easy. Just sit on your ass all day and get paid.

I couldn't of been more wrong...
