One day after a few Zoom meetings with work colleagues, I suggest to my husband we go out shopping and for a walk. It's nice being out and not stuck in the house the whole time, Sam is looking after our baby while we are out. He takes my hand as we are walking and says to me, "I'm so proud of you, you are so talented." I smile at him, even after all these years of being together he still has the power to give me butterflies and make me smile. "It's a shame you're not that talented though." He laughs and gently punches my shoulder.
We have been trying for baby number two for the past year and unfortunately nothing is happening; I feel like a failure. We were fine the first time and now we are struggling, I always try to count my blessings rather than keep thinking about what I don't have. One day our baby will have a little brother or sister, but for now I am happy with our little family unit.
We go into the supermarket and grab a few basic essentials; we are both wearing face masks and to say that they are uncomfortable would be an understatement. I hope that this pandemic is over soon and we can start getting back to normal, whatever that may be. We get to the checkout and the lady processes our shopping. She looks at my husband suspiciously as though he's going to ransack the whole store, when she sees me looking at her, she swiftly turns away. This isn't the first time that this has happened and it won't be the last, everybody's human and they're entitled to their suspicions.
