Gasping for air, Sabre hauled himself up onto the shore. Water dripping down from his clothes, he collapsed a few paces away from the ocean water. He closed his eyes as he was flooded with tiredness. Screams echoed in his ears and the smell of smoke stung his nose. His eyes flew open in alarm, the noises died away until all he could hear was the waves lapping at the sandy beach and a gentle breeze blew against his face. He searched the ocean, but all he saw was the stormy sky and dark waters. He stood weakly and stared at the thundering sky, the breeze tossing his hair.

I'm the only survivor, he realized.

Sabre turned to face the forest behind him. Sighing, he headed into it. The brambles brushed his legs and he ducked under large pine branches. Flies buzzed through the air, dodging large raindrops as they flew away past Sabre. The unknown area left Sabre nervous about what he'd find.

The forest was thick, the sun blocked by dark clouds above. A bird called out in alarm, startling Sabre. Soon, his stomach growled. He didn't realize how hungry he was, and he had to find food. Surely there had to be some source of food around the forest.

Sabre continued his way, glancing around for edible plants or berries. He felt exhausted walking endlessly through the forest. It was cold, the air wet. Water dripped from his soaked clothes and hair. Finally, he sat down in a patch of grass under one of the pine trees. He rested, closing his eyes. He didn't want to be there. He wanted to be home, with his sister and cousins. Not in an unknown forest in a fight for survival! Hunger stabbed his stomach and he reopened his eyes. He had to keep moving.

Sabre stood up and continued through the forest, stepping around mossy boulders and logs. In some areas, stones had different markings on them. Blizzard the Aggressive, Lava the Unhelpful, Smoke the Unforgiving. They were graves!

Suddenly, out of nowhere, an arrow whizzed past his head. Sabre jumped back in alarm. What the heck was that?

"You there!" A deep voice called from the shadows. Sabre whipped around, looking for whoever called to him. Then, a man with yellow hair the colour of honey stepped out. He wore a dark yellow shirt which was covered in black drips which also was in his hair. He had blood-red eyes and one scar down his left eye. Beside him was a black-haired man who wore a black ninja suit. His eyes were cold black and Sabre shivered when he gazed at them.

"W-what do you want from me?" Sabre tried his best to sound brave, but couldn't hide the shake in his voice.

"Nothing much," the spotted yellow man replied, pulling out a jagged sword, dried blood still on its tip. "We want you dead! No one comes into our area thinking it's none of their business to trespass."

"I didn't mean to!" Sabre protested. "I'm lost, I'm not from around here."

"That explains it," he said. "You're a fraud! You're really a spy from the Dreams, aren't you?"

"The what?" Sabre had no clue what these two men were talking about.

"You know what we mean!" The black man yelled. "We don't do funny business around here, punk."

Sabre swallowed. These men were crazy! Who were the Dreams? What did they mean 'their area'?

The spotted yellow man leapt for him with a cry. Sabre flinched back with wide eyes. He turned around and ran, the black man right on his heels.

"Leave me alone!" Sabre pleaded over his shoulder.

"Come back here!" the black man yelled back.

Sabre tried his hardest to get far from the black man, but he was still close behind him. Before long, the spotted yellow man leapt out from the shadows and shoved Sabre off balance. He hit the ground and was able to twist out of the way as the spotted yellow man's sword pierced the ground. Sabre was breathing quickly, fear gripping him like a chain. He backed up against a tree, there was no way to escape now!
